Fundamental Question: Do I have Diabetes?

Hey Linda, Good question. It all stemmed from watching a seminar on some recent research suggesting that there is no best diet for humans and that individuals respond differently to different carbohydrate types. Moreover their research apparently indicates that these responses can be...

Fundamental Question: Do I have Diabetes?

Hi Paulus, MY HbA1C results that I've had done are as follows: 01-Oct-13 5.6% 12-May-14 5.8% 08-Nov-14 5.9% I’m fairly sure that I’ve not had antibody testing. Do you know how one distinguishes between Non diabetic, Pre diabetic and Type 2 based on the HbA1C test results?

Fundamental Question: Do I have Diabetes?

Hi First, I have a Residents Permit for Qatar and I have company health insurance as well as the Qatar state Health Card. Unfortunately, I have had three ‘qualified medical opinions’ that say Prediabetes, LADA and Type 2. I also had a doctor try to change my medications to another type without...

Fundamental Question: Do I have Diabetes?

Hi Alex, Yes, I understand that you are not doctors; however what I’m trying to do is diagnose myself because I’ve had varying medical opinions from Prediabetes to Type 2 and I’m confused. I really don’t want to be taking Metformin if I don’t need to. Surely the HbA1c test is based on a...

Fundamental Question: Do I have Diabetes?

Dear Catapillar, Thank you for getting back to me. My doctors have always been happy to accept appointments and provide me with the medication I need. I guess that as I have paid my stamp all my life and my NI contributions are fully paid up, then that's fine. A friend of mine is retired and...

Fundamental Question: Do I have Diabetes?

Possibly; although previous experience shows that potatoes, particularly chips, did not affect my glucose levels unduly. However the point of this experiment is to determine whether my body’s natural insulin is dealing with carbohydrates well. I am hoping that the experts on here can guide me...

Fundamental Question: Do I have Diabetes?

Hi Alexandra, Thank you for your reply and data. My main concern is being unnecessarily on Metformin (which I have stopped taking) and ensuring that I eat a balanced and healthy diet that does not adversely affect my health. I have attached my Glucose results for today; please bear in mind...

    Life with Libre

Now that I have access to my FreeStyle Libre raw data; the question is do I actually have diabetes. So I've started a new thread here: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/fundamental-question-do-i-have-diabetes.134424/

    Life with Libre

Thank you to everyone that assisted me in getting the data from the FreeStyle Libre. As I'm an Apple user, it wasn't easy; in the end I resorted to using the online upload from an MS Windows laptop and then it can be accessed from the LibreView website and from there a CSV file can be downloaded.

Fundamental Question: Do I have Diabetes?

Hello, I live and work in Qatar, and therefore I don't have easy access to the NHS. In fact a few years ago I tried to get them to assess my diabetes from the results tests taken in Qatar. Their response was that they didn't use those units. I was thinking, it's a straight conversion, just...

    Life with Libre

Hi Barry, I’m back from holiday now and this morning I went to the Diasend.com website, downloaded the Uploader software onto my MacBook Pro, rebooted and tried to connect my FreeStyle Libre reader. However the Uploader Software just sat there trying to find the Reader. I tried the other USB...

    Coconut Milk Spike

Hi there, yes possibly sweetener; but it wasn’t thick, it had the right consistency. A second trial of the same batch of kurma yielded similar results. I don’t really understand LADA either, but it’s treated similarly to Type 2. The details are here...

    Coconut Milk Spike

I suspect it may have had a sweetener added, as it was not thick. Product originated in Thailand. Unfortunately here, things are not so regulated.

    Coconut Milk Spike

Hello Hot Pepper, Yes, I have been diagnosed as LADA by the doctor I trusted most. Many doctors here are Quacks and they go about things in a most unscientific way. I bought the FreeStyle Libre for two reasons: 1. To determine which foods caused BG spikes 2. Self diagnosis. I am extremely...

    Coconut Milk Spike

It was recommended to me and I have read various articles supporting its use in a Low Carb diet; e.g. https://ketodietapp.com/Blog/post/2016/01/19/how-to-cream-coconut-milk

    Coconut Milk Spike

Thanks John, the amount of cardamom I use is very small; so I empirically discounted that from my analysis. Yes, vegetables do have some carb, so that's one source. I shall start using more butter from now on.

I am working towards keeping my BGL between 4 and 6 mmol/l with a peak of 7.8.

    Coconut Milk Spike

Hi John, No, I had no carbs at all; just the kurma. It was cooked in a slow cooker only with the ingredients, no oils, nothing else. The meal should have been really Low Carb. The can says it contains coconut milk and water. I agree on the carb content. My view is that it might be a glitch...
