    Feeling a bit overwhelmed

Please never, ever take meds because your doctor said so. Do your research & reading as much as possible & question everything. There is not a med out there that doesn't have side effects, & statins are known to increase your risk for T2D.

    Trying low carb - struggling!

Yes, I am pre-D & am on the slender side, BMI 20.4. You can't add carbs, so add good fat--avocado, walnuts, coconut oil (I keep in the refrigerator & cut off a chunk like candy), olive oil (salads) & grass fed butter (on low carb bread). Fat is calorie dense, & will satiate you too. When I find...

    Cost of LCHF/keto?

I don't think it has to cost more, but I do think you may need to prep/cook/bake more. I have found no difference in my grocery bill, except maybe in meat. I buy only high quality grass fed, but my portion size is only 4 oz.so it balances out.

    pre-diabetes, fasting blood sugars.

"pre" is just a label & #'s are just that..... Any type of elevated blood sugars (or lows) should be taken seriously w/LC diet & no sugar/grains/processed foods. (The only reason why we need labels is for insurance companies.) Borderline readings are a warning. So if you are having "lows" yes...

    What foods to avoid?

Root vegetables & beans should be eaten in very limited quantities.

    Is this indicative of prediabetes?

It sounds like you have the start of insulin resistance. I'd definitely think about going on a LC diet, & visit to the doc.

Carbs or not carbs. This is the question

I try to make this easy for myself. I am pre-D w/normal BS & a 5.5% A1C, no meds. I eat under 40 grams carbs most days---some days 50, some days 30 --of complex carbs. (NOT net) No prepared/processed/packaged foods, no root vegetables. Baked LC treats are "very occasionally". (low carb doesn't...

    What Goes Around, Comes Around

Exactly. I say NOTHING about my pre-D. People are sometimes vicious w/information.

Yeah it's cheating the doc from getting pay-backs from Big Pharma.

Keto Outing: How to order a Keto Friendly coffee?

Heavy cream, yes--but not half & half, or 2% milk.

    Diabetes snobbery

Which is why I never ever tell anyone about my personal medical situation. It's really unfortunate that you had to be attacked like this from some clueless friend, let alone a stranger. I'd tell them to F**k off politely.

    NHS Dietitian Contradicting Himself

That should be criminal. How does a dietician not know about "ketosis", & in the absence of glucose, the brain doesn't just stop---DUH--it reverts to burning fat, like in the old days. Ha!

    pre-diabetes, fasting blood sugars.

Sounds perfect to me.although some would say it would be better in the lower 90's at 2 hours. But I'd be happy w/these numbers.

    pre-diabetes, fasting blood sugars.

If anything, they may be on the low side, as a glucometer has a 20% margin of error. But I'd take the advice of the person who says to test 2 & 3 hours AFTER your meals.

YES! I know that Robitussin makes one, but I live in the USA. You may be able to order online.

    Snacks for long haul/Maldives

I haven't flown w/Emirates, but fly often on other carriers. I found the nuts & buiscuits not to be carb friendly. So if Emirates has low-carb snacks, that's great!
