    Officially team 1.5

I was first diagnosed with T2 7 years ago but had a contract working for Diabetes Victoria and was instructed to get c-peptides measured. So after the gauntlet of metformin and byetta which weren’t working for me and probably killed off all my remaining pancreas, am now on Lantus and FIASP at...

    Hello folks

:chicken: Mine was a day a week for 5 weeks and was so interesting that I didn’t want it to end. They go through your numbers and suggest adjustments to your basal, ratio of bolus to carbohydrates, food choices, effect of exercise, dealing with potential side effects with neuropathy, how to...

Have you ever lied about having T1D...?

I agree. I felt so sure I was acing an interview and then I told her I was diabetic and could see her attitude change. I didn’t get the job as I ‘didn’t fit culturally’. Rubbish.

    Libre Sensor

The fact is, before I discovered Libre, I rarely ever finger pricked because it hurts too much. I’m a typist and my fingers were uncomfortably sore, so I could not work properly. So having a Libre gives me much better control. I am very sensitive to rises and falls in my BSL and they tally...

I find my Libre absolutely indispensable and can’t imagine going back to finger pricking. Dont care what the cost.

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

For people without diabetes, the normal range for the haemoglobin A1c level is between 4% and 5.6%. Haemoglobin A1c levels between 5.7% and 6.4% mean you have a higher chance of getting diabetes. Levels of 6.5% or higher mean you have diabetes.

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

Down from 11.1% a year ago to 6.8% this week, post DAFNE course. So worth doing.

    Metformin And Insulin

I ate just as many carbs before I had to take insulin, and lost 12 kg over a year. But now on insulin I am permanently hungry, even lightheaded and shaky. It is definitely the insulin. It’s put 6 kg back on in two months.

    Metformin And Insulin

I find insulin makes me so hungry. Would taking Metformin enable me to reduce the cravings?

    Levemir Or Tresiba?

By the way, I am Type 1.5 LADA

    Levemir Or Tresiba?

I’ve heard good things about Levemir but my Diabetes Educator would not let me change from Lantus as it us ‘stronger’. I have very uncontrolled BG highs at 11mmols to 22mmols and take 14 units in the morning and 16 at night. Is Levemir not so good for someone like me?

    Gliclazide is it that bad?

Does anyone have experience with Bydureon / Byetta? My doctor wants to put me on this as my BS won't come down from 11mmol +. Weekly injections - is it on prescription in Australia? Yes, I do LCHF....

Excuse me, but I am new to this. What's this R ALA everyone seems to be talking about?

    Gliclazide is it that bad?

I now take 160mg Gliclazide a day, alongside 1000 Metformin. Both doses were doubled recently when I caught the flu virus and my BS shot up to 24mmol. It slowly came down as I recovered, not sure if this was due to the increased meds. I am now constant at 11 - 13mmol. Still too high, so...

    High morning sugars

I have terrible dawn phenomenon levels between 12 and 22. No other symptoms. Sweat during the night but usually only get up once to use the loo. NIDM and lost 12 kg, but Hb1ac next week and I'm sure doctor will put me on insulin. Current 2000 Metformin just not keeping it down. And yes, I do...

low carb snack with long shelf life

I find having bottled water in the car really helps between meals. Schweppes do one with lemon or lime taste, but no calories/carbs - I hate drinking tap water. Also very low cal mints, eg. TicTacs, just help to stave off the hunger pangs. But I also have nuts to eat, with just a little dried...
