Ray. Well done on the exercise. Just one little note. Exercise doesn't lose the weight. Most people think it does, but not so. Exercise is great for what you needed; it tones muscles, and it improves the cardiovascular system. But to lose the weight you really need to eat the right foods. So I...

Recently got back on the low carb trail! Lost 28lbs so far. Still taking Metformin 'til the Doc advises otherwise. No more swollen legs, no more water retention and no more blisters for the Community Nurses to tend. My fluid retention cough is drying up too. I am still learning to walk again...

    Don't want to take meds.

I didn't want to take meds (Metformin) either. I resisted for 12 months, then had to agree to them. One a day is sufficient. I adjusted my diet three or four years ago and was doing fine. Then my wife was taken ill with Parkinson's and Dementia. I cared for her for six years, and then she had to...

    NHS Dietitian Contradicting Himself

Tell your nutritionist to observe wild creatures. They eat only what is available to them, and they all specialise. We used to be wild, long before bread and rice, and we ate what was available to us. Namely our natural foods that we could gather or hunt. We are still the same, and whilst we...

    NHS Dietitian Contradicting Himself

Unfortunately I have had quite a few spells in hospital since my sixties, both for myself and my wife. I am dismayed when I see so many NHS staff who are clearly obese, among them people who tell me my BMI (Which I think is a load of Bovine Manure.) is too high. It makes we wonder whether or not...

Yesterday my trousers fell down of their own accord. I was in my front porch on full view. I am over the moon. Last month I had difficulty fastening the waist band. I suppose I had better make another hole in my belt! The only downside is I shall have to order some new cords with a 46 inch waist...

A few asking for low carb food lists....

Since being diagnosed with T2D my simple rule is; if it wasn't available to our ancestors (Pre-agricultural age) then I try to avoid it. I live quite well on any edible form of meat, fish, sea food. (Fancy being able to eat lobster and crab, when 'on a diet'! ) I eat lots of poultry; especialy...

    Boring!

I would rather walk barefoot over tin-tacks than eat avocado. I tried it once, and ruined a lovely salad for myself. Its has the taste of a lump of tallow! Ughhh! Mind you I used not to like peppers, but now I do! Just as a change from all the broccoli and cauli I was eating.

    Noodles!

Say no to noodles. There must be starch in them if they make you feel like that. I pigged out on a box of Maynards Wine gums last week. My blood sugar went up, but other than that, no ill-effects whatsoever. After a snooze, (which is to be expected after a sugar load) my blood sugar came down...

A few asking for low carb food lists....

Imagine you are stranded on a lush, verdant island, full of plant life, fruit and all kinds of animal life. You would be bound to find water of course. In order not to starve, you'd have to eat green vegetables, fruits and nuts and you would have to hunt and/or fish. Everything edible then my...

    Difference between FLaxseed and Linseed.

Flaxseed makes exceedingly good porridge; mixed with chia seed and coconut milk. Expensive stuff, I buy 5 kilo sacks and premix them. I was missing my porridge, so I got the recipe as a substitute. Delishiososoh , although it can have searching effects on some folk. So try it small quantities...

Type 2 What can I eat?

Points taken of course, but perhaps what I wanted to stress was the fact that all those years ago, we didn't eat a lot of starches. Certainly there were few 'simple carbs' such as bread, other pastries and refined sugar. I eat carbs, but only green vegetables, and an occasional serving of...

Type 2 What can I eat?

My pleasure, but remember, I am speaking only from my own experiences. I am quite sure you can get by on chicken and maybe other poultry for variety. I cook chicken once a month; and it lasts my wife and I the whole week through, with salads. I don't eat potatoes with my meat, and fill my veg...

Type 2 What can I eat?

The two most suitable nuts are pecan and Brazils. Pecans are expensive in the UK but they are delicious! This is if you are on a HFLC diet btw. These two varieties re the lowest sugar 'spikers' for want of a better expression. You wouldn't need to fill up on broccoli, if you eat meat. Protein...

Type 2 What can I eat?

I think the HFLC diet has been around for a lot longer than 100 years, and I believe it's our natural diet. Imagine you are shipwrecked on an island where there is vegetation and wild life. You would be in the position in which our forefathers found themselves, before they knew how to make...

What does diabetic neuropathy feel like?

Sounds like my 'Morton's Nueroma'; a lesion on the foot tendons. Feels like standing on a pebble under the ball of the foot. Some numbness that can be relieved by finding the right spot on the foot and manipulating it. HTH
