    Blood Monitors Compared

It's more your choice of lancet that hurts in terms of blood testing. I think as long as you use a fresh one each time it should be relatively painless. You get used to it and your finger tips start to toughen up which is a good & a bad thing. Rotate testing sites.

    Strange head rush

See you've raised another interesting point - firmness of bed mattress. As mentioned the pain starts in my shoulder and radiates down to my hand etc but is worse during the night, so maybe it's worsened by me sleeping on my side? I usually sleep on one of the postropedic, very soft beds. I...

    Blood Monitors Compared

My wife brought home a new blood glucose monitor from work yesterday, that a mdical rep had given her. It's called a True One All in one blood glucose meter http://www.glucosemeters4u.com/trueone.htm. Essentially it's a disposable meter that is attached to the top of a pot of 50 test strips...

    Strange head rush

Hi SiGreenwood, Sorry to hear about your symptoms. It's interesting that in order for a neuropathy to present itself it has to be symmetrical as suggested by your GP. I havn't heard this before. First off I had a deep tissue massage in my back, shoulders & neck to see if that would 'do...

    Strange head rush

Cheers Timo. The sensation has returned, spread & worsened. I am making a GP appointment. The sensation now manifests itself not only in & around my head but extends all the way down my arm to my right hand. At the same time the index finger on that hand has gone numb although I can still feel...

    Strange head rush

A few weeks back I started to experience a constant feeling of blood rushing to my head. I thought it was a little strange and attributed it to the fluoxetine (prozac) I'm taking. I saw the GP and mentioned the symptoms to him and his suggestion was to lay off the medication for a few days to...

    continuous blood glucose monitors?

howie, I guess target BS for such devices would be individually calibrated for the individual as not everyone aims for the same targets.

    continuous blood glucose monitors?

Cheers Phoenix & kegstore. It's a brave person who trials these closed loop systems! Guess someone has to, they're doing something similar here in Leicestershire diabetes research. Apparently it's a small metal ball that's implanted inside you with insulin that can be remotely operated. Upon a...

    continuous blood glucose monitors?

This certainly is an interesting topic everyone. I think aside from something coming out of stem cell research, progress with CGMs has got to be the most viable option for T1s in the meantime. The idea of creating an artificial pancreas is almost tangible when you look at conjoining a pump with...

HIGH Bood sugars - whatever I do, desperate and fed up.

Could be that you're run down and have a bug thats giving you insulin resistance?

    continuous blood glucose monitors?

Not yet it seems. You look at the costs involved with using the current ones and you can see why. I'd like to try the freestyle navigator but it costs something like £40 plus for a sensor implant that last only a couple of days :shock...

    Type 1 & Red Wine

Cheers snoopstaa, that's pretty interesting reading, I've never made the distinction between weak beer and 'normal' beer before. I stopped drinking beer because of the erratic blood sugars in favour of red wine & that explains things! :)

Swine flu, are we at greater risk?.

Speaking to my wife about all this and she's a nurse at a Leicestershire hospital. Apparently the underlying conditions for those fatalities so far have been largely relating to renal problems. Basically anyone who has compromised kidney function or on immunosuppressant [spelling] drugs...

Swine flu, are we at greater risk?.

OK I rang NHS Direct. They said that the advice is to be vigilant and look for early symptoms of flu and then contact a doctor stating you're high risk, which almost goes without saying. It would certainly help to know which one of my colleagues has gone home with it, trouble is this site is...

Swine flu, are we at greater risk?.

I've just heard that someone at my work has contracted Swine Flu. To get this in perspective I work in a large head office with 1200+ people on site. As a T1 I know I'm not more likely to contract the virus in the 1st place but if do I'll likely suffer more severly. I really want to avoid...

    cholesterol

We could consider HDL against LDL ratios but the target figure for safe cholesterol levels overall remains 4.0 for the healthy and unhealthy alike. Also, the programme mentioned that reducing carbs increases the likeliness of suffering from the D word - depression. All interesting points...

    cholesterol

Update: Watched that 'Best Diet in the World' programme last night. Low carb diet was obviously best for achieving massive weight loss but pushes cholesterol up apparently .This is something you dont see mentioned on this forum much :!: I've been lowering my carbs since the start of the year...
