Travelling the world with T1 Diabetes

You definitely should. The idea of this post was to imply that Diabetes should not restrict what you do - just becareful. Get stocked up on your free supplies before you go then take extra money for when you need to buy supplies. I very much enjoyed Asia. Our blog (that isn’t diabetes related)...

Travelling the world with T1 Diabetes

Definitely, I know some GP’s can be different from one another. My diabetes care is through my local hospital rather than my GP so if they contact my GP on my behalf and then the GP issue the prescription - if that makes sense?! I just make sure that when I am home I have an appointment set up...

    Very early pregnancy

Hello, congratulations! I am very much looking forward to becoming a mum one day. Just wondering how you are finding it with diabetes? Do you have to go into hospital regularly? Also during labour do they have you on a sugar pump? Apologies if you don’t want to answer, just nosy as to how a...

Travelling the world with T1 Diabetes

Hello! I have been travelling the world now for 2 years and counting. Since then my HBA1C results have gone from 13 to 6.8 aka dangerous to perfect! I’m not saying travelling is the cure of course but the regular walking, restricted diet, sunshine and less stress has played a huge role. I...

Hair loss and low in iron

Hello, I was experiencing this. My case is most likely completely different as I have a eating disorder but I take multi vitamins with added iron once a day and I have noticed good results. Don’t get Holland & barrats (expensive!) just some from your local supermarket. I know it’s a worry...

    Ditch the levemir?!

Hey! That's great thanks I think I will have to drop a couple more units before bed. To go to bed and wake up on the same reading would be a dream!

    Ditch the levemir?!

Yes you're right with that one- sun burn also causes a significant drop in blood sugars! I haven't tried the milk idea, do you mean with meals or as a snack? or just as a drink before bed maybe? I see what you mean about the sugars being less harsh to prevent the high then sudden drop. Thanks...

    Ditch the levemir?!

Yes you are right. If your body needs it a low dose is better than no dose. I've been sending emails to my diabetes team but it takes them a few days to reply so thought I'd see what others had done :)

    Ditch the levemir?!

Low bloods are happening every morning. I tend to drink sugar drinks rather than eat to correct the low bloods. I know the sugar can be fatning but I'd rather drink than eat something. I snack on fruit which has natural sugars in too which prevents the lows in the first place. Eating disorders...

Type 1: What foods to avoid/eat to bring down HBA1C for T1?

I'm a big fan of cardio. I notice that whenever I come home from the gym my bloods are sky high..It won't be until early hours of the morning that my blood will rapidly drop. Of course then once you're low, you rebound straight back up. Then just to make things worse, if your working out and...

    Tattoos?

Hi all, I was wondering if anybody has got a tattoo on their foot? If so, how well did it heal? What are your bloods like? I understand the risks of diabetics having any kind of tattoo or piercing and I know if your bloods are well controlled you are safer. Just wondered if this is a...

Type 1s: What would you do?!

Hello, Thankyou! That is a great suggestion. With the diet/eating disorder I find it hard to have decent snacks or meals. Sometimes my body panics in starvation mode so my BG rises. It's a difficult scenario! I am going to reduce my evening dose and make sure I inject for food hopefully that...

Type 1s: What would you do?!

You are right, this a great way to talk to others. Sometimes someone in the same boat is so much more reassuring than the doctors or nurses.
