    Time For An Update!

Hello @ Gina G At time of diagnosis the antibodies tests were not done due to the urgency to get me on insulin to save my life. T1.5 diagnosis was made from my presentation and symptoms in the three months prior to diagnosis. A much later GAD test was negative, but was explained to me that it...

    Time For An Update!

Well, it's 3 1/2 years since diagnosis as LADA with an HbA1c of 101. I was immediately put onto Novorapid and Levemir as my health was critical - no time to try out other medications. BG's reduced rapidly over the following weeks until I began having horrendous problems with swings from hyper...

    Type 1 becomes Type 2????

@abcd99 You could have a mis-diagnosed T1 / 1.5 who is reclassified as a T2. I am T1.5 but managed to come off insulin altogether with use of LCHF, and my pancreas is once again producing enough insulin to cover my low carb lifestyle. If I am told in the future I am a T2, then it will have...

    Dawn Phenominum

@PenguinMum I find that having a shower will always increase my BGs no matter what time of day. Hence I would test before that activity. To minimise my DP, I have a couple of cheese biscuits with a slice of mild cheese on, and a small glass of milk before bed. This tends to keep my morning...

Type 1.5 Is being '5 to drive' only applicable to people on insulin?

I was asked this question today, as I have maintained this rule since diagnosis, although when being first told about it, I was taking 36 units daily to get my A1c of 103 down to a more manageable level. Using LCHF I find my D easy to control, and if not driving am happy to let my BGs drop into...

Hot bath and blood sugar levels

I find that (for me) a hot bath or hot shower always raises my BGs. For example last night when out at a family meal my daughter was concerned that my pre-meal test was 6.9 but I explained that this was due to my shower just before going out. Sure enough, I retested some 2 hours later...

    Cholesterol

Ahh well. With my LDL currently at 5.8 it gives me something to aim for; LCHF has been pretty easy to do (to my surprise) and has huge benefits for my health as a whole. It certainly won't ne difficult in the short term to bring the LDL down, though as my body is (unfortunately) disposed to...

    Anyone take Glucosamine Sulphate?

I've been taking 1000mg daily for about 15 years; but this was to deal with chronic rheumatoid arthritis and a long time prior to having D. I have never noticed any effect on my BGs with taking it. Interestingly I did see if I could manage a lower dose when on lchf, but was crippled with the...

    Cholesterol

Swings and roundabouts. 9 months ago my total cholesterol was 4.5 and a1c was 49. In the autumn of last year (whilst still on lchf) I was experimenting with higher carb foods and covering them with high fatty foods - with great success and seeing my BGs not only stay steady, but also lower...

    Regaining Weight

I dropped from 15 stone 2lbs to 13 stone 8lbs in the two months prior to diagnosis. Since going low carb, that has been down further to 12 stone 8lbs, but have found that with an excess of fats I have it up to a comfortable 13 stone. Only since going low carb have I regained my energy that D...

    Annual review questions

Firstly, welcome to the Forum; you've come to the right place [emoji1303] You need to be asking for full blood tests to include having her HbA1c tested; which will show (amongst other things), her overall picture of blood sugars. This then marks a definitive point you can work from. It will...

    Diabetes has ruined my life

@NoKindOfSusie I think you need first to accept where you are then look to move positively forward. I accept you will be depressed in the first period as you adjust; this is something most diabetics will recall even if it was decades ago. (For some people this period is weeks, in others months...

How many grams of carbs do u have?

Works great for me. As for calculating the carbs, it was actually the Carbs and Cals book where you can get accurate refs from. Proof is in the eating; I'm insulin-free with LCHF, are you?

How many grams of carbs do u have?

Plenty of zero carb meals to be had - not just a glass of water! Try a cheddar salad; cheese, couple of eggs, spinach, celery, cucumber, topped off with a fillet of mackerel (or salmon, or tuna). Delicious [emoji39] It's actually about 3g carbs, but DAFNE teach you to disregard less than 10g...

    Percentage of carbs help please

Yes, Carbs and Cals, though I got the book rather than the app. Once you have a good broad knowledge of what's high, low, and middlish, you can muddle them all up in a meal and work out what actually affects your BGs and what doesn't. Although officially LCHF, if I find I've gained a bit of...

Link between coldweather and high sugar levels

One thing to note; make sure your meter is at room temperature when testing; I have had some very odd results when testing at high and low temperatures, which only after some thought was traced to the meter being exposed to 'out of its comfort range' temperatures. I too use the Accu-Chek meter.

How many grams of carbs do u have?

20-50g daily is the norm for me. I don't worry if it's at the higher end as my body can cope with it, and my BGs are stable in the 4-5's. Occasionally I'll have a zero carb meal, but this doesn't necessarily mean a plunge in BGs, often just a slight drop. Leaves room for a treat later in the day!
