    Steroids & Stability!

Had a snotty call from the Diabetes Clinic asking why I hadn't been to see them yet. I explained that I was not yet stabilised, owing to asthma/chest infections popping up every few weeks, necessitating steroids - 40mg a day for 5 days. I wonder if anyone can tell me how long steroids slosh...

    who inspires you

I woud second that, Sue. But I also hold a deep and abiding awe for the tipsy lady who had enjoyed a long and excellent dinner with her large and posh family at a hotel where we were staying. All in one breath, she said 'I've had a simply wonderful time tonight, so much so that I would like to...

Type 2 under control but not if you know what I mean!

You not only CAN do it, you HAVE been doing it. We all get hacked off with it at times - I have myself got fed up with bad BS today because of infection and thought 'sod it' and eaten a pizza and a pud. But tomorrow is another day...keep your chin up!

    Been to see Doctor

Glad you're feeling better, Sandy; it's a b*gger when you're having a bad time with the asthma too. I'm the same at the mo with a chest infection - bs gone loopy. The low-carb is such a Godsend when it comes to lowering bs...I'm so glad I found this forum! Keep on keeping on, Sandy!

If someone else suggests it's all my fault...

I'm asthmatic. So they put me on steroids. So I got fat. And THEN i got diabloodybetes from the steroids. But I can't be bothered to explain that to the sort of person who I KNOW is making the assumption that I sit and drink coke to wash down the doughnuts all day...

    Just discovered Matzos: low carb

They do picnic/snack packs of those,a big bag of little packets of two; you can get stem ginger or berry ones.I can only get them ion bigger Waitroses though. Two biscuits are JUST right if you're needing a bit of something to keep you going!

Acupuncture: Love to hear your views

I've been having acupuncture for ages (not for diabetes specifically, I was only diagnosed Xmas 08; thanks, Santa...) but she's now doing some work on the diabetes too. BS is dropping well, but I've upped my meds (metformin) and also been low-carbing so it's hard to know what's done what.

    Mole and Millimole

Will there be an English translation of this available soon, please? Although I understood the bit about the photograph... This just goes to show how right I was to give up chemistry after the third form.

    olives

The olives with anchovy in are nice, and so are the ones with a green chilli stuffed up it. One of my customers loves olives with lemon rind in, but I've never tried 'em.

    looking for teaching aides

Contact your local diabetes education group; the class I've just finished (YES!!!!!) would have been PERFECT for someone with learning disbilities. I was bored rigid and vaguely insulted at the visual aids employed (for instance, a plastic apple and pear to demonstrate 'apple' and 'pear' shaped...

Is half a bar of Green and Blacks a bad thing?

I always think it tastes like dog choc drops. And yes,I DO speak from experience, albeit from the dim & distant when I was about 5. So I call it 'dog chocolate'. Bleurgh...

    Sorry. but you gotta laugh!!

Not a joke, just the facts as reported to me by a garage employee...I suppose if your hand's on the wheel when the doobrey goes off - it's deployed by a small explosion, I believe. I dunno; touch wood, I've only hit a deer in my smart car, and airbags didn't go off then!

    Sorry. but you gotta laugh!!

An elderly chap took a Fiesta for a test drive at our local garage and irritably told the salesman he was quite capable of driving an automatic, even though he'd never done so before. He roared straight across the road and through the window of the posh frock shop, which subsequently had to be...

    New with Diabetes 2

I'm a newish T2 as well, and my BS levels have been up at 27!! However, with the excellent support and advice on this forum, I've been low carbing and this morning my BS was 8...I thought my eyes were deceiving me.:) The low carb makes the weight drop off slowly and gently - which is apparently...
