    Breakfast cereal

Some brioche with nutella. The brioche gives me a reasonable quick carb hit and the nutella is slow release throughout the morning. Reading some of the earlier replies I seem to eat a lot less than lots of people (I also take our dog for at least an hours walk to burn off some of the carbs...

    Accu chek mobile problems

I thought I was the only one having problems. My first meter had to be sent back as it kept giving readings 10 times the actual levels (checked with my other meter to confirm the correct readings) and it kept reporting that there was insufficient blood on the cassette (even though there was the...

    Testing strip failures

Many thanks to everyone who has replied. It looks like the concensus of opinion is - get a different meter. Thanks again.

    Testing strip failures

Hi I'm using OneTouch Verio IQ with the relevant testing strips but I've been having several 'strip read failures' recently. It can be as high as 1 in 10 in a box of 100 or as low as 1 in 25 but I would say that even 4% failure rate is too high. This is only a recent problem (over the course of...

    Crohn's et al

Feeling p'd off at the moment so apologies in advance. I've had Crohn's disease for nearly 20 years now and thought I'd got used to the regular flare-ups but this one has really got me knocked for six. It doesn't help that I have Lymes disease as well and my BSs are all over the place. I can...

Type 1 Travelling and sharps box

@AndBreathe Cheap flights, hand luggage only :) I think Ledzept is right, use a cheap tupperware box and if necessary let security keep it at check in. :)

Type 1 Travelling and sharps box

Hi all, I'm going away for 17 days next week and I've just had a sudden panic - what do I do with my sharps box? No problem for the journey there, I can keep used bits in my travel pouch and take an empty box with me, but what about coming back. Do pharmacies just take them in for disposal like...

    Anyone else living in France?

Hi I'm T1, near Poitiers, and think the service here is brilliant. I see the consultant 3 times a year but can phone him or write to him whenever I want and he's always very responsive and helpful. As a T2 you have an ALD (affliction longue durée), as Phoenix says. However, go back to your GP...

    Citrafleet bowel cleaner

Yes, I know, not a very pleasant subject but I have to have a CT scan next week as I suffer from Crohn's disease as well as being T1. I've just collected the prescribed medication to clear the bowel - Citrafleet - and, reading up it states that it can affect the BG levels quite dramatically...

    Hot Weather and Hypoglycaemia

Hi Like GoRachel1989 it's normally hotter here than the UK but last night was exceptional (45c !!) and would explain why I needed a cereal bar to bring my BG back up before I went to bed. Was in hospital so I suppose I was in the best place if I had gone hypo  BB

    A cautionary tale

Last week a tooth cracked in half and, within 24 hours, the side of my mouth looked like I was trying to eat a tennis ball. My GP gave me anti-biotics (he's not one of those that insist you go to a dentist for everything) whilst I waited for an appointment with a dentist. I then went on a long...

    Ulcerative Colitis and Diabetes

I have Crohn's as well as being T1. I've found that the LCHF diet has worked wonders in managing the Crohn's. I still get 'epsodes' and always carry the necessary items with me in case I'm caught short but they've been getting less and less frequent since I startdd the LCHF diet. Good luck.

    Red wine

I agree, why drink a bottle of red wine when a few single malts will do the same thing :wacky:

We can now all eat carbs, yeah right

Going on about diabetes too much

I'm at the other end of the spectrum to you - I'm retired and recently diagnosed type 1. I found that most friends wanted to know about what I can/not eat mainly so that when we eat out, or at each others houses, they don't feel embarrassed by serving something really high in carbs. For everyone...

How long after eating do you test blood glucose

I was told to test no more than 15 minutes before eating and then 2 hours after finishing the meal (a normal one, not a drawn out one with friends). Seems to work for me.

Lower carb's by cooking the day before

The NHS stste, about reheating rice - Tips on serving rice safely ideally, serve rice as soon as it has been cooked if that isn't possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (ideally within one hour) keep rice in the fridge for no more than one day until reheating when you reheat any rice...

Lower carb's by cooking the day before

The Daily Mail recently published an article about reducing calories and carbs by cooking potatoes, pasta, rice etc the day before, refridgerating and then reheating the next day (or eating cold). It stated that you could reduce up to 1/2 the carb intake as the starches are turned to...
