NHS advice on low carbohydrate diets

I received similar advice. I lost 4 stone in 3 months on a carefully constructed low carb diet, my diabetes went back into good control and then I had a check up with the heart consultant. On their advice I reintroduced carbs and now I am gaining weight, constantly hungry, sluggish and my blood...

Quick update as it's the end of my second week on low carb. I am no longer hungry eating smaller portions, another 5lbs lost and blood mostly 9 or 10 after meals. I'm a convert to lchf! I have an appointment with diabetic nurse tomorrow. My first. I wonder what tomorrow will bring?

Why can I not get my readings down?

I had the same problem of not being able to reduce my sugars to begin with and it wasn't until I realised I was eating too many carbs in the form of root vegetables (which I assumed to be ok), that I was able to make some progress. What has worked for me is weighing and logging everything I put...

So it's exactly a week since I started the LCHF plan, eating under 50g of carb per day. I feel really well, the first time in many many months. I've just taken my blood 2 hours after eating and it's 11.5 - a week ago at the same point in the day it was 19! I've also lost over a stone in...

Type 2s: What have you eaten today?

Breakfast - a protein shake (because I am sick of eggs), lunch - stirfry with cabbage, chicken and thai spices; dinner cauliflower mash with bacon pieces (I love this) and a pork chop, jelly and some melon. This is my first week of low carb but I am finding there are lots of lovely things I can...

It really has cheered me up seeing the numbers come down so quickly, and they can only improve as my knowledge grows. I have felt wobbly but found that sitting down with a glass of water has helped. Despite the giddiness I have to say that I do feel better than I have done for months. Good...

Thank you - yes I am beginning to realise that - I wasn't counting the carbs in root vegetables ie carrots and swede - so a bit of a wake up call for me. I dropped the carbs down to 50 yesterday and in just one day saw a huge improvement, with blood dropping to 13.5 from 19. Early days but...

Thank you, I'll try dropping down to under 50 per day and see if that helps.

Thank you so much everyone. It really helps to feel that I'm not so alone. The low carb diet I have been following is under 100g of carb per day split Between 3 meals, and those carbs mainly beans or new potatoes as I'm not good with grains. I will persevere for a few more weeks as I guess Rome...

Hi can anyone help me please? I have been prediabetic for years but suddenly my blood sugar levels are high. I've been put on metformin for type 2 and taken it for 3 weeks but nothing seems to be bringing my levels down (currently 19) I'm following a fairly low carb healthy diet and exercise 30...
