I know -A day in the life of a parent of a Type1 child.

One nurse described the diagnosis as being like a grief. It does feel very much like a grieving process you have to go through. Yes night-times can feel very scary at the beginning. I don't know if it's like this for everyone, but we've kind of got used to recognising what my son's levels will...

I know -A day in the life of a parent of a Type1 child.

Hi Charlotte, so sorry to hear that you've had to find your way here. I think all I can say is that things do become easier with time. All the testing and checking and carb counting all become routine and part of the whole family's every day life. My type 1 son is now 14 and was diagnosed when...

    Silly question about Libre....

Linda, the code to get into the professional settings is CAA1C. No idea why they don't make that common knowledge as I'm always jiggling ratios around and having to update them on the Libre.

    FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

My 11 year old son has been using the Libre since November 2015. It's been a god-send tbh and would struggle without it now, it really does make things so much easier. We've never had one fall off before the two weeks have been up (we've not used any rocktape or tegaderm over the top) nor had a...

Diabetic Chocolate / Sponge Cake with Almond Flour

Oh no, not coeliac disease to complicate things further. Hope you've managed to find yourself some other treats to replace them. Thank you. Yes we're finding our feet a bit more with it all now.

Diabetic Chocolate / Sponge Cake with Almond Flour

I made these: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/low-carb-chocolate-brownies.5097/ Other people swear by them so it mayve just been my baking! I'm vegan so didn't actually taste them myself but the husband and kids took one mouthful and spat them out! Tasted too powdery apparently, oops!

Diabetic Chocolate / Sponge Cake with Almond Flour

Thanks, but it's very early days for us so we are still on set insulin doses. Didn't want to spike the BG levels whilst they're still being monitored at this stage but wanted him to be able to have a little treat. Hoping we can start the carb counting very soon for this reason.

Thanks Gemma, yes he's being amazingly brave. It's unbelievable how much inner strength these little ones can have in tough situations.

Ah okay, thanks for the heads-up. I'm a rubbish baker anyway.....maybe a cake isn't such a good idea, my son would probably prefer going without than one of my creations!

Diabetic Chocolate / Sponge Cake with Almond Flour

Hi all, My 10 year old son was diagnosed Type 1 just over a week ago and he feels like he's missing out on loads already so I'd like to bake him a cake. I've been searching on-line and it's taking an age to search through all of the stuff out there. Does anyone know of any chocolate sponge /...

I know -A day in the life of a parent of a Type1 child.

Hi , sorry to hear you've had to join us here too. We're just over a week in from diagnosis and it really is such a whirlwind of emotions. I've not been able to put a plug on the waterworks when anyone stops and innocently asks how we all are yet! The best advice I've had so far is just to take...

    Pasta Yeh!

Great post! My 10-yr-old son was diagnosed less than a fortnight ago. As a result we're being fed information slowly by the diabetes team. We've been told to just give him whatever he wants to eat in an attempt to gain weight and I've had to fill in the gaps myself. My son loves pasta. Last...

Type one, looking for general support and friends. 15+

Teenage years are tough enough without having to contend with diabetes too. Well done for picking yourself up from it Hollie and trying to move things onto a positive track. There seems to be a real shortage of local groups and communities for young people with diabetes hopefully someone on here...
