I know -A day in the life of a parent of a Type1 child.

I hope you both take it as a challenge, not struggle and adopt. There is A Lot to learn and understand, but it pays off.

I know -A day in the life of a parent of a Type1 child.

My daughter was diagnosed at 20 months old, now she is "a big 4" and it does not get easier, we just learned to live with it, we just do not take failures too close, BUT IT IS NOT EASIER. She can only be controlled with pump and continuous glucose monitor, she can only go to nursery because we...

    Toddler foods

I found out with the help of CGM that the spikes are smaller if we try to feed our 2yo when she is on the lower side of the range with bolus couple of minutes before meal. And all the high carb things are nightmare insulin just does not cope. We can not awoid it. I find that homemade veg soup...

    That feeling of loss

My little one was diagnosed last Aug at the age of 21 months. I feel the same feeling of loss, loss of lots of things, but i gained a much happier child. Just as you said on good days (or good hours in our case) everyone is happy because it is sooo precious. I have not had a full nights sleep...

    Soy products

That is terrible, from our experience cutting out soy and dayry at the same time is harsh. Are you cooking enough lentils, beans, chickpeas? I know it is not full diet but a suggestion.

    Soy products

Does your intolerance influence your bg? It seems to me when our daughter eats one of the triggers she gets uncontrollably high, anything you experienced? Thanks

    More advice needed please

I think you definitely need either push on your doctor or get further referral because it is really dangerous to have such high readings for months in a row. Good luck as with NHS you get nowhere if you are not all over them.

    Soy products

This is interesting, my daughter is intolerant to all the three and is type 1. She is only 2 and life is quite tricky without these products in her diet. Anybody else???

    Type 1 frio bag

Just one more thing. When you stop overnight take your insulin to fridge without the cooling pouch (it is mentioned in the instructions). In spain most pharmacies can order you insulin for the following day if something happens. They speak english quite well in touristic areas. Have a great time...

    keytones

You should definitely contact your nurse and follow leaflet for sick day rules, i would give him a pen injection asap. Is he throwing up because he has ketones or because he has a bug? If a bug you should consider increase basal rate temporarily until ketones less than 0.4.if ketones were before...

I know -A day in the life of a parent of a Type1 child.

Hello Cath 10. We travelled abroad to Alicante this spring. My advice is to keep medications in two bags, in case something happens to one, you will have a back up. We kept insulinin frio cooling pouches for travelling. Just mention to the staf at the airport security that your daughter is...

    Confused and so emotional

I am new to the forumand i cannot understand how so many people are so positive. I share the worries and feel like my 2 yo daughters diabetes is a permanently loose battle. I envy people diagnosed later in life as it seems they are so much steadier and more predictable. I can carbcount...

    Help with rising glucose level

Hello, i found with my daughter that type of food is extremely important for bg after meal. Especially when she became intolerant for some. Try food diary to see if it makes difference if you have toast or oats for breakfast. It might be different with children though. :)
