Question about Blood sugar and job trials?

To be safe and confident at your interview have lunch before you go. I have had T1 diabetes for over 58 years and the advances are phenomenal, so you can easily check your blood sugar just before you start your interview. Good luck!

50 Years as Type 1 Diabetic

Hello All! I was diagnosed in March 1964 aged 13. Memories of a packed Diabetic clinic where I arrived before 9 a.m. with everyone else, had my blood taken and waited for 3 hours for the result! When it was nearimg my turn I waited outside the consulting room with two other patients, the door...

Freestyle Libre Poll - Have you had a skin reaction ?

I hope it goes well for you Phil, as it is a good device. I haven't tried it again since my adverse reactions, but now that I know that the adhesive has changed I may give it a go. Thank you for the information.

Freestyle Libre Poll - Have you had a skin reaction ?

I had a 6 month break from using freestyle libra, due to skin reactions. I used one over Christmas with very little problem, just a slight non-itchy rash. I tried another one at the beginning of Febrary and had to remove it after 3 days, as the itch was unbearable!! The sore it produced was...

Freestyle Libre Poll - Have you had a skin reaction ?

Thanks Andy P, I will look out for this and hope it is an improvement on the Freestyle. Perhaps the price will come down as more people use it.

    Flu Jabs

Mine is a different story. Diagnosed type 1 in 1964 I had a bout of flu in 1974, aged 23. Subsequently,I had a flu jab from whenever they were first available and was fine, until 2005. Two days after the vaccination I spent 10 days in bed with flu like symptoms. Ten weeks later the same thing...

Freestyle Libre Poll - Have you had a skin reaction ?

I, too am having a break from sensors at the moment. I removed the last one 10 days ago, having suffered intense itching for the whole 2 weeks. The skin reaction was worse than ever. What a shame that such a beneficial product is adversely affecting about half of the users/customers. I haven't...

Type 1 Diabetes is killing me

Hello, I hope you won't mind reading a little story. There was a girl aged 13 who became very ill with Diabetes. She hated it. It ruled her life. No one knew how low she felt. How different she felt. How sick she felt. She had some really bad times. Having many changes of insulin. Poor...

Laser Eye Surgery - Very Worried

Ditto all the above information and advice. It is worrying, but it is the only remedy to maintain your sight. I first had this treatment in my 20's and held a driving licence until I was in my 40's. I would think that every case is different and hope that your sight will not be severely affected...

type 1 diabetes/ invisible illness documentary

I definitely agree that it should be a positive approach to T1. What about a concise history of the way treatment has changed since the discovery of insulin? I remember (in 1964) when I was diagnosed, waiting 3 hours for a blood test result, which could only be done at the hospital. By the time...

Freestyle Libre Poll - Have you had a skin reaction ?

I would be interested to know if the antihistamines work. Perhaps you could name them and post results?

Would you take a cure if it became available? Curious?

Reading this thread it seems to me that we all see ourselves differently. I am a female who happens to have Type 1 Diabetes, NOT a "Diabetic" who happens to be a female. Ask anyone with a chronic condition if they would rather not have it and guess the answer!!

Would you take a cure if it became available? Curious?

Diagnosed in 1964 aged 13. 51 years on. I wouldn't need asking twice!

Freestyle Libre Poll - Have you had a skin reaction ?

I have voted yes as I am still getting a skin reaction each time I use a sensor, but just tolerating it as the product is good. The first reaction is still visible (since end of May), but no longer sore. I see that not many people have voted but a 40% result proves that there is a big problem...

    pump/ dafne course

No problem! I also carry syringes and insulin with me if out for more than a few hours (as advised by pump nurse when starting pump). Always a good idea to have a back-up plan! Sorry to hear that you had serious problems in the past.

    pump/ dafne course

Hi, I use Humalog insulin in a Medtronic Paradigm pump. It takes a while to adjust to the daily levels of insulin required (basal and blouse), but I had no problems with the change of insulin. I did have a lot of hypos at first but had regular appointmens, as I'm sure you will and the pump nurse...

    pump/ dafne course

It's wonderful to have the pump. I wish more people would be as encouraging to others new to it or encouraging to those considering it. Like you I feel so much better!
