How much Insulin you are taking? Just curious

It's important to do what works for you. :) People shouldn't be pushing anything on to anyone as firstly they are not medically trained and do not know what your medical needs and circumstances are. It's a work in progress to find what works, and it's very much an individual journey. I've...

PORRIDGE made with water or low fat milk?

I don't mind either way.... it's one of my safe foods as goes down easily and I don't get pain with it. Yes it does increase sugar, but I just taken the insulin to cover what I'm eating. Even before being diagnosed with diabetes I loved eating raw oats and porridge. I think I took after my...

    Tackling hypos

Yes, I was told to keep my BGL's above 5mmol at all times. That is my safe number and if I drop below that I do drop real fast... proven that time and again. My endocrinologist knows that. He also said always treat a hypo and don't make any decisions to drive, etc for a good half hour after...

    Tackling hypos

I was advised the aim is to avoid the liver dumping as the liver can fail to dump in time if you allow it to dump glucose. With that in mind that is why I always take quick acting carbs first, then slower acting afterwards to avoid another hypo. For me bread and milk doesn't absorb fast enough...

Stomach bug / IBS and suddenly don’t need much insulin

I hope you don't have another disease to contend with. I have a T1 friend who was having stomach issues too and they found out they now have another illness. At first they were concerned they had celiac as apparently T1 are more prone to that as it is an auto immune disease.... although got...

Stomach bug / IBS and suddenly don’t need much insulin

Sorry to hear you're having a rough time. I'm glad to see you have booked in to see your doc as definitely worthwhile getting a check up. As you can see in my signature I have quite a few gastric conditions which includes irritable bowel syndrome. I find when it's really playing up my pain...

    Seasons greetings

Yes luckily my GP is not charging me. Although that only happened since he reduced my working hours. Prior to that he was billing $75 a short consult or $105 a long one.... of which I can claim approx half back through our medicare system... the difference is my expense (same for everyone else...

Thanks for the suggestion :) I wouldn't do that though as too many go fund me pages circulated here already... also this is an ongoing expense I'm talking about and not a one off. I will need to pay that every year for probably the rest of my life. I'm trying to get help through another govt...

Yes, you are fortunate to have a good system there in the UK... although I realise it is no doubt under stress too. Here it's a mixed bag of free health care, some help with subsidies given, and no help at all. It's not until you get sick that you get to learn what is covered and what isn't...

    Insulin

Everyone is different as to how much insulin they need. Their insulin to carb ratio is going to be different. from the next diabetic. I personally need more insulin. I need a minimum of 6 units per 10g of carb. If I have less my sugar stays higher. I'm on 16 units of lantus at the moment...

    Insulin

I'm sorry to hear you lost your dad... that would definitely impact on your sugar levels too. I've been insulin dependant myself since beginning of 2010. As you can see by my signature I was diagnosed type 2 in 1998. I managed on diet alone for 7 years, then oral medication for the next 5...

    Depression

I do not like having to talk... the more I talk the more pain in my throat I get. Some people get me talking too much and I lose my voice completely. I have reflux laryngitis and muscle tension dysphonia and that's why it hurts me to talk. I've tried communicating other ways although it...

    Respecting food intolerances

I also can't eat quite a few things.... I figure sugar would probably go up because your body is stressing. The last time I ate a steak I was in pain for 3 days and that sure put my sugar up. I have trouble with acids and textures mainly so have to be careful. I'm still finding myself in pain...

Changes to NDSS (Australia) from next month

Yeh I've purchased from Independence Australia before and Surgical Warehouse also. They're really the only 2 I can buy from here. When it comes to the medical product I need neither of them are cheap at all. I have tried a few different cheaper brands of the supply I need and they're rubbish...

Changes to NDSS (Australia) from next month

Yes, true... all different. Although we do pay a lot of tax.... plus we have medical costs we need to pay too. To my understanding the NHS is free and provided for from the taxpayer dollars. We have medicare here and various govt schemes which operate similar to NHS... the only thing is that...
