I'm a diabetic with neuropathy. Will the NHS help around the house? A blue disability badge?

Hi, I've had serious neuropathy in my feet, legs hands, and arm. Sometimes movement can be difficult so is there any way I can get a blue badge? I'm speaking to my GP tomorrow. And can the NHS provide a helper around the home to help with cooking, cleaning the house etc? I'm not asking for a lot...

I have proteinuria, am I eating too much protein?

Haha. I expect you look younger than me, I'm actually 41 and this photo was taken a few years ago. I am still young. I think you're right I should err on the side of caution. Before I went low carb I ate a low gi diet. I don't really want to increase carbohydrates. I'll increase quality fat for...

I have proteinuria, am I eating too much protein?

That's music to my ears you know! Yes I have oily dressing, lots of mayonnaise, and cheese. I'm off nuts at the moment but I plan to go back to them and double cream as well. I got some 'high' cholesterol readings last year so I panicked and reduced my fat intake. I know, that was probably a bit...

I have proteinuria, am I eating too much protein?

Thanks, sorry I misunderstood. Yes it's possible I'm a little bit underweight at the moment. Edit. I'll watch that.

I have proteinuria, am I eating too much protein?

Thanks for the full reply! Yes unfortunately my recent urea result is 9.1 My estimated GFR is 66 which from you say is on the low side of normal (a bit worse than yours). However, patientaccess puts this in red and says the number should be greater than 89. My urea numbers have been consistently...

I have proteinuria, am I eating too much protein?

Hi. I don't pay much attention to BMI I'm afraid I believe it's too generalised.

I have proteinuria, am I eating too much protein?

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure how many calories I have, obviously it's enough to maintain my weight though which doesn't fluctuate very much. The amount of fat I eat has increased a bit recently, it's probably pointless putting a percentage on it. Protein is...

I have proteinuria, am I eating too much protein?

Hi everyone. I hope you're all doing well. I started a low-carb ala Dr Bernstein diet late 2019. I'm quite slim, I weigh about 57 kg, I exercise occasionally. I've had some proteinuria almost since the time I was diagnosed with type 1 in 2007, though it has usually been kept at bay. My...

    Diabetic in police custody

Hi Marcian. It was interesting and helpful to read your post. If I had my time again I wouldn't answer the police's questions. In fact, the interview was cut short because I was feeling very unwell. I've met one duty solicitor and my experience was very negative. Actually my experience of...

    Diabetic in police custody

Yeah, I've wondered that too. I really hope they'd let diabetics have their insulin, perhaps in a pump, and bg testing equipment. I wouldn't like to have to rely on calling someone to test me every time. I think NHS guidance on pre- and post- meal bg levels is quite dangerous and stupid.

    Diabetic in police custody

Thanks. Yes, I made a reasonable request. I was very unwell during the interview but I wasn't charged so I'm not complaining about that specifically. I hope to sue the police. I will contact Diabetes.org.uk and my MP for help. Edit: And I'll have a look at the Citizen's Advice Bureau as well.

    Diabetic in police custody

There appeared to be one nurse on duty at the police station and she was a general nurse. She didn't know much about diabetes.

    Diabetic in police custody

I can provide my own experience. I've been held in custody two times and the first time I was wearing a pump and they let me keep it on. I think I actually had my blood pricker and tester on me as well.
