Forced to change to Omnitest 3 Meter

It's not too bad, i have never tried to use it with a laptop but it doesn't have any connections to suggest this is possible. The small annoyances: It's upside down (in comparison to the Bauer contour) in still not used to this even after using for c. 2 years The strips come in pots of 25 - the...

    Pump Questions...

Hi all, I've done a quick search, but still have a few questions about pump (specifically the Omnipod). Background: I generally have good control, last hba1c was 7%, probably have 1 hypo a week which I recognise and deal with appropriately. The problem is I suffer from the dawn effect and...

Forced to change to Omnitest 3 Meter

Hi all, I went to see my surgery today to get my repeat prescription and they informed my they cannot issue my current prescription of bayer contour test strips as they are enforcing a meter change, they gave me a letter (summerized here) Now, I fall into the first category as I am a type 1...

    Disposing of Sharps?

I used to have it on presciption and could drop the full one off at the surgery. I moved surgerys and they asked me to call the local council. They come round every month, and if i have left a full bin outside they replace it with an empty one... I actually forgot last month (when my bin was...

'dont' inject in a public toilet !

I have no problem injecting in a public toliet... I remember reading an article a few years ago (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7377002.stm) about how there is more germs/bacteria in your office keyboard than on a toliet seat. I think the majority of public toliets (service stations, pubs, shops...

Food that doesn't affect BS but it should

I have found that a full english (excluding carby items: beans, bread, hash browns etc) seems to have a massive impact on my BG. I normally have to inject a couple of units to counter act. No cheese in my full english breakies tho'..........

How many blood strips do you get a month

I get 300 on my repeat... Plus another 300 for another meter type if I select them. This seems to be about once a month. I have upped this from 100 to 200 to 300. I once got challenged by the GP who I saw the change my repeat up to 300. He said I shouldn't be testing that much. As soon as I...

    Removing Blood from Shirts

thanks everyone... I'll have a look in the supermarket tonight and try one of the products you've suggested. If that doesn't work I'll try the cold water technique I'll report when i get round to doing my washing!! Cheers, James

    Removing Blood from Shirts

Hi all, Does anyone know how to get spots of (dry) blood from shirts? Every so often when I inject at work, it starts to bleed (only a little bit) and these drops of blood then show on my shirts. Normally washing doesn't seem to get the blood out. I've tried googleing it but it only talks...

Do you inject in public? and how organised are you

jelly babies are easy to carry round, and much nicer than dextrose tabs! I use a pencil case as well - it can be a bit difficult as a bloke with a man bag. If I don't have a bag with me, I'll try and where something with big pockets

    FRIO WALLETS

I've never had any problems with my Frio Duo. I use it for x2 Novo Pen 4s. I normally let it completely dry out when not in use - then when i need it i let it soak for about 30mins - 1 hour !!

    Lantus to Insultard

Well I decided to up the does rather than splitting it and it seems to have worked so far... I went up from 10 to 12 on Friday night (due to a normal rise of BG by around 6-7 over night - I usually expect a drop og 3BG for 1 unit QA). Last night I went to bed at 9, and woke up at 9.6 - am...

    Lantus to Insultard

A few conflicting messages so far... I did a fasting test yesterday morning and found my sugars rose in the morning: 8am - 8.3 9am - 10.5 10am - 10.8 11am - 10.2 12pm - 12.8 I have also found that my BG rose before my dinner: 7pm - 6.4 (7 hours after lunch, no strenous exercise or anything)...

    Lantus to Insultard

Thanks for the ideas all. I have done the fasting test before and had a pretty stable blood sugar from about 8am to 5pm. There was a small peak about an hour after waking (only by 2-3). the rest of the day it was completely flat. This was a while ago, so next time ive got some free time ill do...

    Lantus to Insultard

Hi Catherine - That was my first thought too, however I started off on a 1:1 ratio at all times of the day. Then I upped my breakfast ratio because of the high numbers. I tried going to a ratio of 2:1, but anymore insulin with breakfast and I end up having a hypo mid morning before my lunch.

Help with Basal Dose if anyone's got a moment to spare

The other thing to remember is that most meters are not that accurate! Do a quick test on one finger, and then again using another finger - you'll find you get different results (even witht he same meter). If you use two different meters then the results are likely to be even further apart. For...

    Lantus to Insultard

Hi everyone... My consultant recommended I changed to Insultard after a discussion we had last week. I take 11u of Lantus daily at 9pm. Currently my blood sugar in the morning is sky high after breakfast. Typical readings would be: 7am - 8 / 4cps / 6u NovaRapid (1.5 ratio) 9am - 17 10am - 12...

    exercise question

I play squash regulary and found that my BG rises during the sport and then falls for about 5-8 hours afterwards. Before playing I will only have some QA carbs if below 5. Then (I normally play just before lunch), I will drop 2/3 units of insulin with my lunch depending on how easy/hard the...

iPhone, Android and Blackberry diabetes apps

Re: iPhone-Android-Blackberry Phone apps Just downloaded the DAFNE online app (mentioned above)... It's really good! It's essientially the same as the old fashioned paper DAFNE diaries but on iphone/ipod... it can work out your insulin requirements (if you enter your ratios) and gives youa...
