Morning exercise peak - Extreme Dawn Phenomenon

@LittleGreyCat, I just saw that you are T2, I'm T1 and assumed you were also, but since I wrote all this I might just as well post it, since it might help anyway. Yes, your Dawn Phenomenon seems to be quite extreme. I have struggled with this for a long time, and I have found no good info on...

    Which Insulin better for low-carb?

Hi Ruslan, I use * Actrapid for food. * and I only use Novorapid for bolus, i.e. to correct when I'm too high. (of if I (very rarely) cheat and have to eat food which I know have carbs) I eat a very low carb diet, I don't test for ketones, but the few times it has been tested the last 5+ years...

UK insulin for low carb high fat/protein/Bernstein Diet

Hi Tnharvey! I have been doing Bernstein/LCH/keto for 5+ years. I can't remember what Insulin I used in the beginning, but as you say it was to fast, I have now changed to use Actrapid for food and I only use novorapid for adjustment. It works much better for me, as you say I needed to take 2-3...

    Intermittent fasting

Sorry for the late reply, I don't read here very often. I was searching for other type 1 that is doing intermittent fasting and this was the best I could find, so I guess I have to share my experiences. History I have done low carb/keto since 2015 and I have started to eat a more like carnivore...

Told by medical professional that keto is dangerous!

This is the hardest with doing things that are not 'normal', been there, done that. The way I have handled it, is by knowing more than my doctor, being able to argue with them and believing that I'm right and they are wrong. If you believe in all of us here, then just stay strong. (she is...

    Starting Low Carb this week

I doubt that anyone will have the time, but if you are interested in the whole 'trial' it is here only what Noakes side said, but still very good material. I did see it all as it was progressing, but it is 80 or so videos from, 5 to 20+ minutes. Sorry, I don't know how to post youtube...

A question about Basal dosage in a low carb diet

Basal test is very hard. Basal is something that I change very rarely, it is more an average of if I have a good value during the night. To test I would skip breakfast, possibly cover with a bolus for dawn effect and then see what happens between 12 and 16, without eating anything.

A question about Basal dosage in a low carb diet

@Delta31, I used to split my bolus, but then I change to Actrapid, i.e. a regular short-acting insulins instead of a Rapid-acting insulins, i.e. use Insuman, Actrapid or Humulin R, they last for 3-5 hours instead of 2-3. That for me is perfect for a low carb diet.

Travelling Abroad For The First Time Since Diagnosis

I have been stopped a few times, tried to show my letter but never got that far, all I had to say was that it is insulin and that I'm a diabetic.

Delaying the Progression of Type 1 Diabetes

I don't really have or have ever had a CGM, but I do have a libre with the MiaoMiao and xDrip+. So maybe we can call that a CGM? I dropped my HbA1c from about 8, to 5.5 to 5.8 by going low carb. Getting the Libre+MiaoMiao+xDrip+ instead of going low carb for sure would have dropped my HbA1c, but...

Delaying the Progression of Type 1 Diabetes

This is interesting! I think I notice that my ratio changes as my blood sugar goes higher, i.e. if I'm in the 4-7 range I can 'cover' my meal with a normal dose, but if I am high, say 7-8 when I start eating, and eat the same meal (or as same as it can be ..) I often (not necessarily always)...

Reversed Diabetic retinopathy by Low carb diet/low blood sugare!

Hi! I'm just back from my eye test and I had a new doctor that had never seen me before (or read my journal obviously) and she said "No signs of Diabetic retinopathy yet", maybe not such a fantastic thing, but the fact is that for the last 3+ years I have had mild Diabetic retinopathy, so I'm...

Anyone following dr Bernstein’s low carb and using actrapid/humulin s?

Hi! Hi Sorry for late reply but think question is important, I researched a lot on this and found no answers when I did it, so want to add on to @diamondnostril very good answer. I'm also on an LCHF/Ketogenic/Bernstein type diet, I started using my normal novo rapid, I got good results but as...

Getting hypo alerts with libre, blucon and xDrip+

Scott-c, do you have to start a new sensor with the blue con, or can it in anyway work together with the freestyle reader? looks very interesting, need to read up on Xdrip+, thanks a lot for the info.

Libre Accuracy - how confident are you to trust it completely?

I have been using libre for about 3+ months now, I almost never prick anymore, except the first day with a new sensor. I have consistently gotten about 1 mmol/l lower values out of the libre compared to my finger pricks, it seems to be very consistent for me. I have just today done a check of...

    Longest acting rapid insulin ?

I think this post needs to be bumped a bit, it is VERY good, listen to @diamondnostril. When I started doing low carb/keto diet I continued to use my normal rapid action insulin (apidra), I struggled to find a insulin that I could inject in half units but I managed to get my levels much better...

Gary Taube's The Case Against Sugar Book

I have read both, I was surprised, it felt like Taubes had changed his mind since 'Good Calories ...' and was more convinced that it is Sugar that is the problem, not carbohydrates. As NoCrbs4Me states, unless you are not convinced or interested, nothing really new. I found it interesting though.

What do you take when hypo on Low Carb Diet?

I'm on a very low carb diet, i.e. I try to take about 30g of carb per day, not sure but I'm pretty sure I'm below 50 most of the time. Before I used to try to do the 15g carb, wait 15 minutes routine, I often could not take it and had to eat more before 15 minutes was up. and I normally ended up...
