    T2 Thin Newly Diagnosed

Oddity here too! No GAD or the other T1 antibodies, low-normal c-peptide, BMI about 20, zero family history, regular exercise, healthy (but back then that meant whole-grain not low carb) diet, stubbornly high fasting glucose, possible gestational diabetes (no GTT but surprise 9lb baby). Mine...

    Metformin

Also skinny T2, and metformin has been amazing for me (& did not cause any weight loss). I'm allergic to milk (among other things!), but am able to eat a moderately low carb diet (like 75-100g/day) without dairy. For a while I did very low carb (<25g) but I had to eat more fats and after a while...

Fellow liver dumpers, what are your exercise hacks?

Yeah, I'm lucky that my sugars never get THAT high. I've never measured them above 11, I don't think. But I get symptomatic at uncommonly low levels. However, I've been building tolerance over the years--I used to get symptoms (like polydipsia/polyuria, blurred vision, swelling hands/feet...

Fellow liver dumpers, what are your exercise hacks?

I just drink water, or after a run or ride sometimes I drink a litre of water with an electrolyte powder packet in it, but those don't seem to spike me (they do have a few g glucose in them). Fake sugars don't really agree with my tummy so I avoid them. I don't like the idea of cutting back on...

    Metformin

Metformin made a big difference to me. I would say that if you get GI symptoms at first, try to stick it out for a few weeks to a month or so and see if it gets better; my understanding (and personal experience) is that for most people it resolves as you adjust to the medication.

Fellow liver dumpers, what are your exercise hacks?

I take metformin 500mg TID and eat a moderately lowish carb (100g/day) diet. I can't eat too much fat or it upsets my digestion. With this I can keep my general BG readings in the "prediabetes" range. My nemesis has always been fasting glucose and after exercise. I'm really frustrated with the...

    Metformin

Yes. I was diagnosed pre-D after presenting with diabetic symptoms after a viral illness and now take metformin. Diet (low carb) controlled it well for a while, until it didn't. So my GP tried me on a low dose of metformin, which fixed it for a while, but then the fasting glucose started rising...

    Feeling tired

Yes, if I eat too many carbs, and my blood sugar goes high as a result, I can NOT stay awake at all. I understand this feeling. A nap usually has me feeling much better. Some people find that a walk after eating helps. I also notice this utter exhaustion at postprandial (post-meal) levels that...

    My numbers are confusing

Based on what you've shared here I'd guess you're in the "grey zone" where some clinicians would call you prediabetic based on indications of some impaired fasting glucose (the 2 lab tests btw 100 & 125) and others wouldn't (with fine A1C results). What would it change for you if you were...

    High blood sugar numbers

I am concerned at how not-concerned your care providers seem to be about your high blood sugar test results. I hope you can get someone more responsive to look at your case.

    Hunger

Thanks. This whole thing started after I had mono/EBV about 6y ago now (was very symptomatic with classic diabetes symptoms), and I've had low c-peptide every time I've been tested, but it's been steady and not deteriorating, although my need for metformin has increased over the years. I was...

    Hunger

Hi folks, I've felt quite well managed and haven't been thinking much about my pre/diabetes for the past couple years, which has been lovely. My sugars have been okay (in prediabetic range both FBG and HbA1c) and I've been steady on 500 of metformin 3x daily for about 3y now. I still make some...

Low carb cold things for sore throat?

Thanks, friends. Send my partner to the store to look for stevia-sweetened ice cream. (I'm allergic to milk so only a few options but I think I found one stocked locally.) If no luck with that, I'll have to try the whisky! ;)

Low carb cold things for sore throat?

What do you use for cold foods on a sore throat, when eating LC? I've been sick and I want are ice cream and smoothies--have been making yogurt/spinach smoothies with just a little fruit, but seeking other ideas. Thanks!

Do I have to do low carb to reduce HBA1c?

I would echo everything Antje77 says above. Don't panic. You've made a lot of big changes! Great job! Why don't you see what their effect has been, and then if you need to do more, explore reducing overall carbs, and investing in a metre for rapid feedback on specific foods that might be a...

    Liver cysts?

Anyone know anything about liver cysts, and moreover if they are associated with liver over-production of glucose? Apparently I have one or more liver cyst, and curious if it's just an incidental finding or if that might have anything to do with my liver dumping problems.

    Testing Results

Higher morning readings are pretty common due to "dawn phenomenon." Also, the margin of error on home testing can be pretty big. Your meal readings look very good! I would keep an eye on things and if the fasting is always higher maybe ask your HCP about it. Some folks with persistent high...

Labs look great, so what's wrong?

Oh, I sure did. Well, I'm glad you got *good* care, even with an awful syndrome to grapple with. I did raise this diagnosis issue with my HCP--I had assumed it was an error on my record (there's an onilne "patient portal" and that's where I saw it), but my HCP said it was necessary to get my...

Labs look great, so what's wrong?

Also, just thanks to everyone in this forum for being so helpful and supportive. I know so many people have much worse situations than I do, but hearing your perspectives and experiences is helpful. Being in the small group of people who don't seem to fit the prediabetes norm, it's hard to know...

Labs look great, so what's wrong?

Thanks. My family history also contains autoimmune in first and second degree relatives, just no one before me was diabetic of any type that we know of. I had a similar endo consult--although it was for diabetes--in that he searched for any other reason for my hyperglycemia, ruled out a bunch of...
