Hi I'm T2 and a long time vegetarian, there is no reason why you have to eat meat, but you do need to be careful to eat a balanced diet to get all you nutrients. It would helop if you did some research and then you could explain to your dad where you are going to get everything you need from. It...

I know some people who ha eused the NHS no smoking clinics very succesfully, unfortunately they were't around when I was giving up smoking 20 years ago. One lady I know went after she had given up for 2 months already, but needed some support and she says they are the greatest help to her.

    Blood Pressure meds at night?

As my BP is always at the high end of normal - right at the top in fact - I might try this. My problem is remembering to take them at night  My practise nurse is not bothered that I am right at the top, all she says is 'doctor will be happy with that' but I am not. As every point raised...

A lot of chemists will give advice on minor ailments. They do sound like when I had some bites, but do keep an eye on them even if they are bites.

    little lumps

If it were me I would probably try a little antihistamine cream, something like savlon or tcp and if it stops itching, it's a bite or allergy of some sort. Other wise if it carries on or gets worse do you have walk in centre or a local pharmacy which will give advice?

Some friends - even if they lack knowledge about T2, to make you feel bad about an illness is not right. Hospital "discharging" type 1 diabetics!

I think Donnelysdogs has hit the nail on the head,it is all down to the quality of the GP. Some have an interest in diabetes and have read mroe than the small amount that they do on it in medical school and kept up to date. Other have just got the 'crib sheet' and work of that, come what may...

Do you find that not many people understand T2?

I remembered another meal with a T2 friend, who happily ate their way through lasagne, a large portion of garlic bread and a cappuchino coffee, but refused the small chocolate that came with it 'because of their diabetes'! As we said upthread, often it is not bad choice, but lack of...

Do you find that not many people understand T2?

Hi gratope - I've just said on the keeping it secret thread - about being resoundly told by a dietician acquaintance that 'OF COURSE YOU CAN EAT SUGARY THINGS' in a very authorative way when my friends are not offering them to me!

DUK survey today about keeping diabetes a secret.

I don't hide it and will say why when refusing cakes etc. But I often get the comment - just one won't hurt, or a little of what you fancy and so on. And so often I am told 'well my freind/relative/neighbour eats these, so they are ok'. I find it easier now, as I have discovered that I am wheat...
