    Going abroad?

I flew to Canada at 25 weeks, after discussing it with my team. I made sure my insurance (purchased through DiabetesUK) covered any pregnancy related issues. Had no issues what so ever at the airports.

    Breastfeeding

I was able to express some colostrum just prior to being induced at 36 weeks. I am really glad I did for 2 reasons: I think the stimulation helped get my labour started. Also, I had to be taken to theatre straight after my delivery (ruptured placenta). My husband was able to give the expressed...

    Induced or natural birth

Just thought I'd share my experience with you too. Like @kitty55, I wanted to know evidence behind inductions at 38 weeks. I asked my consultant about this and even she struggled to find any up to date evidence! We agreed that I would be induced if I had symptoms that merited it and not...

    Freestyle libre and pregnant

I used the Libre all through my pregnancy and couldn't have coped without it, I have a lot of respect for all the mum's that manage their pregnancy with out it. It was also fantastic in labour as it dramatically cut down on the number of finger pricks that I needed (my husband did all my...

    Exhausted

This is far more rant than looking for advice. Finding the whole diabetes management thing exhausting just now. I am permanently chasing highs and causing hypos. Yesterday between midnight and 5pm I had done 18 blood tests!! Need to take a step back and go back to basics, but just getting...

    Induction Research

Any topics/pieces that people found interesting. Most importantly I'd like to see up to date research as I believe the practice may be based on older research from a time when it was difficult to get the control that you can today. I don't want an induction because evidence from 20 years ago.

    Induction Research

I know there are plenty of threads already about inductions and the reasons behind why there are needed for diabetics. There seems to be some well read people around here so I was wondering if anyone could give me some references for the newer research that has been done on the topic. Would...

    How are everyone's pregnancies going?

I am now 15 weeks and just the lows that are bothering me. Constantly reducing basals and bolus ratios, especially at work - require 50% less bolus for meals and have no basal insulin for a 6 hour period through the middle off the day! Take my hat off to anyone doing this with out a pump or...

    Exercise and early pregnancy

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies, I didn't have time to call my midwife and went along to the weekend, as I was thinking at least I'd be able to attend the theory talks given by the healthcare professionals. It was clear that there was no need to push ourself as any point. I let the nurse...

    Exercise and early pregnancy

Hi everyone, I am lucky enough to be attending the Animas sports weekend this weekend, but I am having a last minute panic about the exercise. I am 8 weeks pregnant and have let the organisers know, they've said it shouldn't be a problem. There will be three exercise sessions: spinning...

    Question about inductions

Thanks for the replies guys. I knew the placenta deteriorated quicker, but didn't know that this could not be monitored. In that context then an induction does seem wise. I wonder why the risk of placenta deterioration and increased risk of still birth? I'd very much like to see the...

    Question about inductions

Hi, I am in the very early stages of pregnancy, but have already been told I'll be induced before my due date. Kind off annoyed about this and just wanted to know a bit more about why it appears that induction is the automatic option for diabetics? Surely if everything else is going okay I...

    Positive pregnancy test...help!

I am in exactly the same boat. I've had good pre conception care but still having to try really hard not to completely panic, especially over individual blood sugar readings. We need to look at all the positive stories here to keep us going.
