    Type 1 Type 1 + Breast Cancer

Since July, I have been taking the estrogen blocking medication Letrozole and since then blood sugar control has been subject the huge and unreliable spikes. I am now take double to triple Novo Rapid and 35% more Lantus. It is frustrating to now have to guess how much insulin to administer...

Keep getting told by people that I can get rid of Diabetes Type one

I live in an area in the U.S. Where marijuana is legal and get tired of ignorant people telling me it will cure type 1. I also have cancer and apparently it cures that too. You can go to dispensaries (pot shops), tell what you have and they will mix up a joint for you to smoke.

    honeymoon has anyones lasted years?.

I know that you have said 15+ years. I am now 3 years post diagnosis and have been wondering that same question. As others have posted, I too also struggled for about 10 years with extreme lows after exercise or during high temperatures.

What question would annoy you the most?

I am so ashamed to say that I thought the same thing. My mother was diabetic and out of ignorance I had no sympathy for her struggle as I thought she brought it upon herself due to her weight. Now that I am diabetic, can understand most of the ignorant comments and questions and use it as an...

Type 1 Ladies - Menopause and HRT

Menopause hit me hard with hot flashes, night sweats and crazy blood sugar swings. I think the combination of t1 and menopause is awful to manage. If you are not able to sleep at night with the sweats, it sucks the life out of you. I suffered for 2.5 years and finally decided to take HRT...

    Ignorant people

While suffering a bad low, my neighbor stepped in to tell me to get over it and that it was nothing to worry about because diabetes isn't serious like some other disease. I wanted to let her have it, but was to weak to try to reason with her. How do you deal with ignorant comments such as this?

    new diagnosis and really struggling

It is difficult at first because you have to learn how various foods and insulin doses affect you. After getting that figured out and getting a continuous blood glucose meter (if possible) it has become much easier, however, you will still have some highs and lows. It is a huge learning curve...

Does anyone else have depressive episodes after severe hypos?

Yes, I also get depressed after a hypo and for severe ones can be emotionally and physically drained for several days. Emotionally, I then feel like a total failure and get super depressed.

    Allergic to Insulin??

I also had the same type of reaction when I first started on insulin. My elbows itched like crazy. After a few months this went away, so perhaps my body became accustomed to the insulin. I don't speak as any sort of expert, just want to acknowledge similar experience.

First ever insulin injection - please help!

When I first started to inject, my skin itched like crazy and it stung and caused bruising. After some time, it became less and less of a problem. Now I pinch up and rarely feel any stinging nor do I bruise to such a degree. Perhaps it was an allergic reaction that I was having. I am not a...

    Food companies

I get so frustrated with the high carb products that I find and deceptive advertising. A product here in the US can say sugar free if it does not have table sugar, so you can get the idea that it is lower carbs, but it is loaded with high fructose corn syrup or other such junk. Reduced sugar...

    Diabetes and Cramp

I also had horrible leg muscle cramps in the months leading up to the diagnosis. Now that my blood sugars have come down considerably, the cramps have subsided. When my blood sugar elevates, I do feel some minor cramps, which leads me to believe the cramps are related to blood sugar levels.

Could I have had symptoms in childhood?

I also can recognize symptoms years earlier than diagnosis. I wonder if it is that we were (in my case still am) in the honeymoon period for a very long time with some pancreas function to keep us going. I can also remember some extreme lows years back during very hot weather or strenuous...

    broken bones

My surgeon told me that ankle and foot injuries are very difficult to heal because of so many bones and carrying the weight of our bodies, so they take a very long time to heal and are often never fully restored. I broke my ankle requiring a piece of sheared off bone to be removed. After 8...

    Lantus timing

Thank you all for the advice and encouragement. I have a cgm and will watch my levels closely. Perhaps, as suggested, the time should be earlier evening or split dose. I will talk with my doctor about those possibilities.
