    How can I control this?

Personally, I'm not keen on ideas people like Moseley and others refer to as "putting diabetes into remission", or "reversing diabetes". I think it gives people the idea of a "cure" - these people aren't cured, but like me and many others on here they are managing their BGs down to almost...

    How can I control this?

Not sure why mowing the lawn would raise your BGs? Unless you're eating a bacon butty as you do it! :D Maybe your blood sugar levels went a bit low and you had a quick liver dump? In which case the resulting rise in BG should only be for a while.

    How can I control this?

I was on Prednisolone for about 3 weeks trying to get rid of a chest infection with my COPD. Blood sugar levels were high no matter what I did. It took a week or two after stopping the pred but eventually they came back down under control so maybe don't worry too much yet. Regarding diet...

    Possible LADA?

Thanks all for comments - I've relayed the info to my friend.

    Possible LADA?

Thanks for the response. I too think it unlikely that he has LADA, just the weight loss throwing me.

    Possible LADA?

Have posted this on the general question section, but thought maybe I should pose my query here so apologies for repetition! Anyway, bit of advice from our expert members if you would. I have been type 2 for 20 years and manage my own diabetes well. I have also helped a lot of friends and family...

    Recent OGTT result

They are NOT assumptions I am making. The figures I am quoting AND the methods are exactly those used clinically. Nowadays as a time and cost saving OGTT tests are seldom done and when they are, clinicians don't sit there for 2 hours taking multiple tests. But they should, and they used to. The...

    I may have diabetes

I agree. I think your test was probably just a random finger prick test (HbA1c wouldn't be shown as 8.4 mmols). 8.4 is higher than you'd expect, but not remarkably so like lots of us on here, particularly if you had recently eaten. The follow up test will be the A1c. Definitely don't do any...

What is pre-diabetes and how serious is it?

Listlad, just get your wife to let you do a finger prick test on her - morning fasting. Nothing definitive but if it's high 5's or more, possibly something not right. Then you can get her to do a HbA1c

Michelle Pfeiffer? She could tell me anything and I'd do it. Remember her as CatWoman in Batman? When she first dressed up in black plastic bin bags that suddenly looked like sprayed-on latex? Is it really just me?

Looks like I might have offended some in my comments about the nutritionist I saw being obese, so apologies if I did. My concern was not about her weight, but about the fact she said it was fine to eat mince pies, and offered me sweets. The obese comment was because I went into the room with my...

Need advice please as I'm a little confused!

That's sounding good Starfish! You're heading for a good HbA1c test next time. In time your starting numbers will probably come down a bit, providing you don't snack between meals, so your peak readings will be lower even with the same amount of increase. Well done so far!

Need advice please as I'm a little confused!

Your BGS will peak about 1 hour after eating, so it is quite likely you will be more than 2 mmols higher at that stage. If at 2 hours after its within 2 mmols from the start, that's good. What are your typical start, 1 hour and 2 hour readings? Although there may well not be a "typical" at this...

    Tea and Biscuits

You don't have to keep both camps happy aardvark. Just yourself. The key is Eat To Your Meter. Use your meter to see how many carbs you can handle, then make up the balance of your intake with fat and protein. There are many arguments about fat, cholesterol, weight etc. But there is no argument...

    Tea and Biscuits

It's not lowering your fat consumption in itself that will raise your blood sugar, but what you eat instead of it. We need a certain amount of food intake, and if you reduce fat you'll have to increase something else. If that's carbs, your blood sugar will go up

You are right, but from what she was telling me about her food, and encouraging me to eat, I'm pretty confident it was.

Not sure if what I’m doing is correct

Kind of what I expected with the testing level you told us about earlier. So, now you know, just need to get on that diet and testing regime already outlined to you. You'll have loads of questions, so just keep asking. You'll always get an answer. Key thing is, this illness is for life. So you...

    Tea and Biscuits

Biscuits are a bad idea I'm afraid. It's not the sugars, but the carbs. The 2 sugars - do you mean sweeteners? If not, you need to scrap the sugar too. With this like biscuits, get used to reading the nutritional info on the back. Don't look at the sugar content, but the carbs per 100 grams...

Metformin - Benefits of low dose compared to stopping

I remain on low dose metformin out of choice. There are a great many trials, particularly in the States, that show that metformin provides good protection against cardiovascular disease if taken regularly. One USA endocrinologist went as far as to say that everyone over the age of 50 should take...

    Facility Nutrition Nurse

I was first sent to a NHS nutritionalist almost 9 years ago with my T2. It was coming up to Christmas. She was obese - strange ad for a nutritionalist? Anyway, I asked her (being innocent and naive) about mince pies. Her words "I'm not going to ruin your Christmas. If you want a couple of mince...
