Anyone still working or been called back to work recently?

hi. I think we were only ever in the “clinically vulnerable” group by Gov.uk definition, so never actually had to self-isolate or shield. Many of my friends are type 2 and NHS, but they have continued to work through this. We can return to work with measures in place to keep 2 metres apart, or...

    Type 2 Struggling

Hi @Eternal summer, how I identify with you. I was diagnosed in 2016, was put on metformin and initially felt I was doing ok. I got my HnA1c down to 41!! then my Gp and nurse wanted me to reduce the metformin (I didn't want to)--- next HbA1c was 42, so they told me to stop it and would not...

    Do you ever feel ashamed?

I too feel rather guilty. Diagnosed just over a year ago (aged 64), got my Hba1 to 46, off metformin now. But feel guilty as 1) am pension-age, therefore drain on nhs 2) t2 diabetic therefore drain on the nhs I retired 6 months ago having worked in the nhs as a midwife for years.

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

7 this morning. Never had one less than 6.5! Am now off metformin and my levels seem to swing about a bit. I buy strips via Amazon, (One Touch Select Plus) and hope they are accurate. Have gained weight since stopping metformin

type two im going to reverse this without medication through diet only

Well done!! I was diagnosed as type2 a year ago and was on metformin. My most recent Hba1c was 46 having been off medication for about 6 weeks. I am finding diet-only control a bit of a struggle but am happy that I am keeping the risk of complications low. You should be really proud of yourself

    Diabetic eye screening

I have had both. The one with anaesthetic drops was done after the"air" test to confirm slightly high pressures (and I flinch and blink with the air test too). The test with the drops is much better and completely painless

    Shell shocked!

hi You sound much happier. There's a book called GI and GL counter by Dr Wynnie Chan at £3.99 which is handbag size and is great! It lists food in categories - fruits, vegetables and salads, poultry and game etc. , and for each item gives average portion size in grams, GI and GL, energy kcal...

    Shell shocked!

I noted your post in reply to @Rachcox and wanted to respond. My surgery expect that I can stop the meds and be diet-controlled and just have an HbA1c done every 6 to 12 months! Am retired, so need to watch my spending, surely I could be prescribed the strips as I'm saving them the cost of...

    Shell shocked!

@Rachcox I am sorry to hear you had a similar experience as me ie not being told you were borderline or prediabetic in 2013. When I informed the nurse she said she would bring it up and that receptionists would NOT Be allowed to give results. Guess what? At my very next blood test, the...

    Shell shocked!

@Rachcox my GPs will not prescribe meters or strips. Working as a midwife, the specialist diabetes midwife gave me a monitor and strips. As I very recently retired, I now buy them, though a colleague who is also T2 has kindly GPs who prescribe them - all down to money! As I am now...

    Shell shocked!

@Rachcox, hi there! I was officially diagnosed as T2 a year ago and felt shocked. I have since found out that 3 YEARS ago I had an HbA1c of 48 (48=diabetic), but had been told by the receptionist that results were normal. Nobody ever followed up in the following 3 years and I was only diagnosed...

Started running again -sugars going high!

I have just joined a beginners running club,, I am type 2 but hba1 is much improved, so metformin down to 500mg. I don't eat before a run, but my BG is higher after the run than at any other time! Am worried that if the metformin is stopped I won't be able to keep my levels down @drahawkins_1973...
