7 year old with type 1

Hi, I’m so sorry your son is struggling. My daughter is 9, dx at 4, and went through a phase last year of massively resenting diabetes and saying on numerous occasions ‘what’s the point of life’ and so on. It was heart breaking. For her, the issues were feeling restricted in what and when she...

Does anyone use an untethered approach with their insulin pump?

I know a few who people who go untethered with their kids on holiday. The benefit is they can stay stable when unclipping the pump on the beach/water parks etc for long periods. My own daughter really struggles with the lack of basal when removing her pump swimming, so I can see the thought...

    Possible infection?

If it’s red and painful keep a very close eye on it. I’d draw around the red area, and if it’s hot to touch or the redness spreads outside the line you’ve drawn get to the docs for antibiotics. My daughter had a cannula set infection over the summer, it spread rapidly and she ended up in...

    Help

An hba1c of 47 indicates that she’s been running much higher than normal blood sugars, and 18mmol post glucose tolerance test is extremely elevated. I’m not sure why they’re leaving it 2 weeks to be followed up, as untreated t1 (if that’s what it is) can deteriorate extremely rapidly. Did they...

    Reducing morning Help

If you’re aiming to get morning blood sugars of 5-6 mmol then you need to be going to bed between 5-6 mmol, presuming that your basal is set correctly to keep you stable. If you’re rising throughout the night and waking up higher than you wish then upping the tresiba is the answer. It depends...

Please help me first time pump

Do you have CGM and if so which? I think which sensor you use will have an impact on your choice. Medtronic has its own sensor that enables low suspend, and dexcom can be linked with the combo pump via android APS, creating a diy closed loop.

    Tandem's Control IQ Explained

Thanks for sharing, I’ve been waiting to find out more about control IQ as ive had Tandem in mind for my daughter to move to from Animas. Such a shame it’s target range is so high though, 6.2-8.8 is not ideal. I don’t think it’ll be for us.
