    Frustration

Do you believe these claims? I call it Facebook syndrome. Everyone on Facebook has an amazingly perfect life in every way, reality is different! Don't believe everything you read and take comfort in doing your best; no-one can ask or expect more. Especially those not walking in your shoes. Shiba.

    type 2 first insulin today

Sadly I think this is normal... I was discharged from hospital with no advice at all - and with someone else's insulin prescription! It's shocking that a drug that's equally fantastic and lethal is dispensed with such abandon. Fortunately there are people here who can help with the principles...

    Irony?

When I was at school, a trump was a fart. And a 'donald' was rhyming slang; a donald duck... Pass me my coat please.

Advice & Guidance to Help Parent

As the previous replies have said, there is some great tech these days that can help, but it really addresses the symptoms not the cause. I suggest you start with a book like "Think like a pancreas" and good old fashioned food/insulin logs. As explained in the book above, get the basal right...

    Pump set change day

Are you fully priming the tube and canula?

Do you just keep injecting fast-acting until levels are right?

While that's generally accepted as a reasonable starting point, do bear in mind that some people can be 1 unit for 30+ grams, others for 3 grams so go carefully. Certainly not a good idea to experiment with large quantities of carbs!

A1c high but blood glucose low

The 'average' is based on the typical lifespan of red blood cells. I've seen web pages that say this can vary by as much as 30%. Perhaps you have particularly long lived red blood cells? Shiba.

For an accessible and informative reference on this subject, I highly recommend "Think Like a Pancreas". Shiba.

    Second village diabetes meeting

Nah, a penny a time would be enough to get rich... I did a first aid course recently, and the presenter insisted that only sugar pushed glucose levels up! As a T1 I felt I had a bit more credibility than her and my class mates genuinely appreciated the resultant explanation! Shiba.

It's called subconscious bias, we all have it. Shiba.

Found on a Surgery Facebook Page Today

Tongue in cheek: Those in the medication queue are the informed ones then! Seriously, I don't disagree with what you say, the lifestyle 'advice' can be somewhat lacking at times... Shiba.

Found on a Surgery Facebook Page Today

The fact is that those on this forum are engaged and motivated. I'm sure most would agree that we are a minority? I'm not surprised that people here don't identify with the stereotype, but the sad truth is that most people do take the easy option in preference . On that basis, like most...

Horrified... but also an amazing star

From the BBC News web page: Should children with type 2 diabetes be offered a gastric op? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-50129480 Gobsmacked, but there is an amazing and inspiring young lady featured - no need to mention who, anyone who reads the article will know who I mean. How did we...

    Humulin I at asda

There does seem to be something odd happening in the supply chain at the moment. I picked up a prescription last night and both the people in the queue in front of me were sent away empty handed. Apparently 'the supplier was unable to source' whatever these people needed, despite both having...

Diabetic "nurse" not qualified to give flu jab

OTOH, rightly or wrongly, our surgeries are businesses first and foremost... If they choose to speculatively buy medication on the expectation that they have a captive market that's their lookout. If they want to capture as much of that income, they need to offer the flu service where and when...

Accuchek Insight - twice the plastic packaging

While that change is not unreasonable, the packaging for the canulas really doesn't need to be anywhere as large as it is. Shiba.

    Where in the world???

Another resident of Reading here too. I seem to recall there's someone else on the forum as well, but can't remember their forum name unfortunately. Begs the question; is Reading over represented with diabetics, or over represented in this forum [emoji3]. Shiba.

    Eat well for less

All the comments about this programme seem fair to me, but we are probably forgetting context... Let's face it, the many success stories on this forum are from the T2 ninaj's, those that have actively engaged with the condition and sought to beat it. That's not to say no one else can do the...
