    This low carb stuff . . . I don't get it

I don't disagree with these findings, but I still maintain that LCHF is much healthier. It is more difficult for type 1's for a few reasons - carbohydrate behaviour is farily well known. Most of us know our carb ratios and can easily treat a new food. How many know the total available glucose...

    Blood Pressure

This morning I read the schpeel about blood pressure on the front page, the page that loaded from my morning email link. It's the same old stuff, and it doesn't work. I find it interesting how medical communities around the world cling to their evidence based advice: "we set guidelines based on...

    Milk and Alcohol questions!

If your best number is 9, you have a lot more to be worried about than alcohol, and alcohol won't bring thos numbers down significantly. My personal recommendation is a very low carb, high fat diet, but you need to educate yourself before jumping in this pool. You should probably book a...

This is doing my head in...please help :)

My breakfast is usually a coffee with heavy cream, "whipping cream" over here, usually 2 a morning. I'm good until lunch, most days. I've been experimenting; I always have and aalways will. I know my dawn phenomenon is very pronounced, and when I eat breakfast, I need 2.5 times the insulin at...

Diabetic nurse changed my carb ratio

You likely have a pronounced DP (dawn phenomenon). Many of us do. Our I:C in early morning is much higher than our I:C from mid-morning on. The more we eat at breakfast, the lower we go before lunch. As we drift into better i:c range, our insulin on board (IOB) drifts into overdose range; it...

    Does anyone have any suggestions???

I'd try some longer-termed, more vigilant basal testing. Such problems are almost always basal related. Make sure you do not eat anything for at least six hours before your test period. Yes, I said six (6). Humalog lasts about 6.5 hours, and you need to eliminate all bolus effects as well as...

    Proberly a silly question (s)

Here in Canada we have many type 2 pumpers. I have three personal friends who pump. T2 is progressive, and eventually insulin is required <- assuming you follow standard disease management. Many of my online friends work backwards. -> Heavy insulin using type 2's are in my opinion the hardest...

    Egg Noodles - Shocker!!

Your actions for the past couple of years are paying off. Your insulin response is very good. Since were dealing with hormonal reactions, I often use sexual experiences as an analogy. It's something everybody can relate to easily. If you have an amazing sexual encounter where performance was...

    Continuously hypo-ing. Help!!

You are trying to match a basal pattern that possibly looks like a mountain range with an almost flat insulin. If you cover the hills, the valleys get flooded. If you let the values grow, the mountains stick out. You'll have much better luck tying to find the binary value of .01 I recommend...

    Statins-Simvastatin

I've heard and read some say CoQ10 should be prescribed alongside any statin, and yes, I agree a thorough follow up should be performed regularly. IMHO these drugs are dangerous to my long term health. It makes no sense to me to take a drug that reduces an element vital to health and in the hope...

Getting low sugar on waking on low carb question.

My theory is when we low carb, we lower our glycogen stores. When we lower our glycogen stores, we lower our basal sugar output. Seems sensical to this layman. I found I needed to drop by basals 20% across the board, but when I stay in deep ketosis for extended periods -- at least two weeks --...

    Basal testing

Basal management for pumpers and MDIers are quite different. As a pumper, I can control my dosage every half hour, and I can easily modify it with temporary adjustments and boluses. Lantus is a long acting insulin - inject and hope. I recommend you try to understand your tendencies but I don't...

    Greetings from across the pond

John, type 1 since 1975, Minimed Veo and sometimes CGM. I prefer operating my pump manually. I believe any brittle pumper should perform rigorous basal tests. I am a low carber. I debated low carbers and they told me I knew squat about it, so I set out to learn. I was eventually and reluctantly...

    Type 1 and eye problems

I've never heard of Myopia and astigmatism being considered diabetic complications. Most of our troubles are in the retina though glaucoma and a few other more rare problems in the front of the eye can occur. Generally there are no symptoms of our complications, so annual checkups are important.
