    Sugar Tax

G'day folks. Unfortunately I only have time to drop in rarely these days. This tax caused me to make the time, mainly because I am concerned our own politicians, always seeking extra revenue, may follow suit. I wrote this back in 2012 when there were suggestions it may happen here: Taxes For Our...

Anonymous Question Should blood tests be fasting all the time?

To refresh your memory this is what I wrote. I fail to see the relevance of your comment to mine. Note that I do not mention A1c. Nor does the OP. I have highlighted the important parts. If the test is for his doctor to use when prescribing a change of regimen, then fasting or two hours after...

Newly diagnosed at 34 and struggling to accept it

Provided you are eating moderate food portions worry less about calories and more about carbohydrates. Dietary management of type 2 blood glucose levels is about carbohydrates, not calories. Many new people find it difficult to accept that, because we have been brainwashed for too many years by...

Need some serious motivation - help please!

The loose relationship is between A1c and home blood glucose testing. I see the various tables and formulae used for that as very loose indeed. Too often I see people writing "your A1c of x equals an average blood glucose of y". That is rarely true even if A1c was an average, which it is not. It...

The breadcrumbs and spuds were the likely cause. Please try some tests at your peak after meals to see what is really happening.

    Yes I am cured !!!

Sorry, I disagree. First, I disagree that eating badly causes type 2 diabetes. It may be an exacerbating factor but no research has yet found a causative link between diet and diabetes. Second, if a person cannot eat eat like a non-diabetic then they are still diabetic. It is as simple as...

I think you mis-read my post.

    Blood sugar still high

Aha! we may have a culprit! Replace with full-fat cream. But I would still ask for the extra testing.

Contact your doctor to discuss this and ask if you were tested for antibodies and c-peptide.

BG 9.1 where did I go wrong with my dinner tonight?

The sauce was about 35gms and the onion and peppers add another 25 to 30 subject to size. People often forget to add the carbs from ostensibly low carb veges. The full recipe is probably about 66 to 75 gms, giving per serve of 22 to 25 gms carb. Not terribly high, but possibly too high for you...

    Yes I am cured !!!

That research is far too recent to make claims like that. Similar claims were made for bariatric surgery a few years ago, some are still claiming it despite the reports of relapses. I'll accept it after the study subjects have passed sufficient years after the trial eating like non-diabetics.

    Boiled v mashed potato

The important point I did not mention is we are all a little different. You need to do your own scientific experiment, with yourself as the subject. My own research project never ends. Nor will yours.

What was on the menu before the 9.7? Try this systematic technique: Test, Review, Adjust. If you do not know when you peak, start with one hour after your last bite.

    Type 2 Why oh why???

That was a very low carb day, but I am sure you are aware of that. However, it was also a very low calorie day. Do you feel fatigued? Consider testing about an hour after each meal and snack to see if you can pinpoint when the numbers start rising. Your present testing routine is too random to...

    Type 2 Why oh why???

What was on the menu over the past 24 hours in excruciating detail, including drinks, snacks and sides? When did you test related to those meals and what numbers did you see?

Interesting. Mis-diagnosis usually occurs in the other direction, with people who are really T1, LADA or MODY mis-diagnosed as T2s then later changed. What are your dietary, testing and recording instructions?

Newly diagnosed at 34 and struggling to accept it

I agree with your caution over the low-calorie diet. I am one of those who expressed concern on the web when it first appeared: The 600 Calorie Diet for Type 2 Diabetes For a more effective but less drastic approach, please read this: Getting Started As a first step, please obtain your own...

    Medic alert

It is a very individual choice. Personally, I believe all insulin users should have some form of medic alert because of the possibility of hypos. Not just for the paramedics to see when assessing medical action if the patient is unconscious, but also for the situation where cops think the...
