    Celeriac

I have just persuaded myself to give this ugly looking brute a chance. I will try making Celeriac mash later in the week and found a recipe on Great British Chefs for Bayonne (or Parma) ham and Celeriac remoulade which has made my mouth water. Tonight I will make Celeriac crisps that I can...

    Concerned, confused and depressed

Hi Mark, Don't stress yourself or worry about it. I too had a letter like that and, as I always follow up with a visit to the opticians, I let him read the letter. He then took photos of the back of my eyes, without drops, and went through it with me. Apparently the letter is just a little...

    Hello from Texas

I decided that I was going to be in control of my diabetes and not the other way round. I am almost there following the low carb diet and if I can do it anyone can. Can't see the point of worrying about something that may not happen, the time to worry is when it does happen, then do something...

    Bread

Through testing I have found that bread is most definitely off my menu. Just cooking my first batch of Oopsie Bread. Will have a sausage Oopsie for late breakfast.

    Dangerous to be in hospital

I had a bad angina attack that wouldn't stop, so called an ambulance. Admitted to cardiac care ward and was looked after by a lovely team of nurses. They did bs regularly, but the second evening they went into a huddle talking very quietly among themselves. When I asked what the problem was...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I treated myself to a codefree meter and this morning tested the same drop of blood against my CareSens N, one read 10.9, the other 11.0. Very pleased with meter, not so much with reading. Unable to get it down at the moment.

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

I was diagnosed T2 in 2010, given a meter, lancets and test strips but told not to test as it wasn't necessary. I didn't, and the only food advice I was given was cut out sugar. Of course, over the years I put on weight and my BG slowly got worse. Put on Metformin but both types made me ill...

    Eye screening.

My designated driver was my daughter and, as it was school holidays her two daughters came too. They were allowed in the examination room and the technician was very good, explaining the photos to them, they found it absolutely fascinating. Hopefully, as diabetes runs in the family, if they...

    Type 2 Hands drying out

Many years ago I was told to put a tablespoon of salt in the palm of one hand, drizzle olive oil over so it is mostly soaked up by the salt, then "wash" your hands with the mixture. When you have had enough, rinse under warm water to get rid of the salt. This really helped my window cleaner...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

I went on the DESMOND course in 2011 just after I was diagnosed T2. They seemed more interested in how much sugar was in foods and I don't remember anything being said about carbs at all. I started on diet control for a few years, then put on Metformin which made me very ill. Switched to...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

10.1 mmols. Oh dear, think it might have been the cucumber sandwich I ate at 10pm. Couldn't resist.
