Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

38 (5.6%) down from 52 (6.9%) 3 months before (and down from 125 (13.6%) 2 months before that). Super chuffed and my dexcom G5 predicted 39 so pretty accurate and confirmation that the technology works. Couldn't do without it! [emoji4]

    Goose ?

My mam did this Jamie Oliver recipe a couple of years ago and it was delicious! https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/goose-recipes/day-ahead-stripped-goose/ You cook it the day before and keep the meat in some of the fat to keep it moist for the big day. And the left over fat is for the roast...

    Exercise - still affected 24 - 48 hours later, what's your approach?

I also drop my basal after exercise (I'm on MDI). I've started doing HIIT classes once every 2 days and so I've had to reduce it by 1unit just because I can see I'm running lower generally. My meal after my HIIT ends up being about 50%less insulin than if I hadn't done the exercise, even if it's...

    Ladies things (sorry blokes!)

Yep. Apparently the hormones make you more insulin resistant so experimenting with the basal doses help bring it back into range. And its worse if you aren't on hormonal contraception.

Looking for a slim case for insulin pens and needles

I got a nice smart pencil case from paperchase. It can hold 2 pens and a handful of needles no problem.

    Travelling by plane

I've travelled twice by plane this year and it's never been an issue. My hospital diabetes team did me a letter for free stating I need all supplies with me on the plane in cabin luggage. I put this and a copy of my most recent prescription with all my diabetes supplies for the xray scanner. It...

    Managing exercise and insulin

All credit to Ian Gallan,Alistair Lumb and James Moran for the slides (from the OneTouch Diabetes Sports Weekend 2017). Found the slide on treating according to CGM arrow direction which also included Libre. Also the thought behind splitting your 1g/kg/hr carb into little and often rather than...

    Exercise & Insulin

Hi @LauraC27 I had the same issues, usually do circuits or spinning or running for 60mins. Whatever I started on I'd always drop to the 4''s and occasionally 3's. The best advice I was given was to take glucose regularly during exercise (drink form easier) and keep this separate from your...

    Managing exercise and insulin

It was wonderful. In a way I feel so privileged to have been able to go on this so soon after diagnosis. Some people have waited their whole life before now to get this information to help them exercise smartly and safely, and I've managed to cram in so much information and support into my first...

    Managing exercise and insulin

Roddy Riddle was there. His before dinner presentation was phenomenal and is a wonderful example of what you can achieve if you put your mind to it but also that saying no is the best thing for you sometimes. Although now he has applied to go on Bear Grylls Island show. There was so much good...

    Managing exercise and insulin

I've just come back from an amazing diabetes and exercise weekend in Loughborough. I'm sure others will have been on it in the past but if you have a chance, look up the One Touch sports weekend (previously was Animas) and the #OTSW2017 on twitter. It was an amazing 2 days of about 50 people...

    Hello

Hi not-Suzie! You are still early days, don't feel the need to rush into everything. 3 weeks can feel like ages but really in the grand scheme of things, small beans. Don't let that frustrate you. I was diagnosed in February at 30 years old. I'm just getting back to managing my old exercise...

Interested in what people think about my project!

Not a pretty design idea but something that attaches your things to the case/container would be really useful, at least for me. Not just a loop holding it in place like in the BG pouches but if you imagine a cord and loop to stop things falling on the floor. I've just been on holiday, balancing...

Type 1 Silly question - sharps bins

My GP prescribe them for me and will dispose of my full ones as long as they are locked and the front label is completed. Only 1L so not too massive. My pharmacy where I pick up the bins won't do anything with them.

Accidentally given too much basal...any tips?

@GrantGam Thank you for your reply. It has all been fairly settled and nothing dramatic has happened as I expected from too much basal rather than too much quick acting. Luckily I'm off work this week so I can be as lazy as I like today! Overnight was fine. I did go to bed higher than I...

Newly diagnosed but I've been here before

The best thing I did was ask HR for an occupational health referral-I don't know if you would have that option available to you? They really helped in ensuring my working day was as routine as possible so I could have time for meals, testing, ensuring certain activities weren't timed at a period...

Accidentally given too much basal...any tips?

Like an idiot I have given myself 15u lantus instead of 9u. Just a mix up at tea time just now, I am having a fairly carby dinner so have only administered half of my novorapid I would have normally. I'll avoid exercise tomorrow and I have a dexcom G5 which can alert when I'm asleep if BG drops...

Newly diagnosed advice wanted for a night out.

Gin and slimline tonic is my favourite. Red wine doesn't seem to have any effect on me so that's a bonus too. Why don't you have an experiment at home with a couple of drinks to see how you react? If I'm only having a couple (and they aren't super sweet cocktails) I don't bolus at all.

Libre on NHS, what's happening about Dexcom

Dexcom sensor is £51 each and G5 transmitter (the grey bit that clips on) is £250 and lasts 3 months officially (the software switches it off after this). Compatible phones mean you can use mobile Bluetooth for readings instead of buying the official receiving device. You don't have to change...

Can GP deal with my pump query ?

If you are unhappy with the continued cancelled appointments, contact the hospital PALS team. They can be really useful getting new appointments made if you explain what's happened with yours. Sent from my SM-G900F using Diabetes.co.uk Forum mobile app
