    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Oops. Been a while. I've been using medication for my type 2 since July and have regained all the weight I lost - currently 420 lbs now, but my latest hba1c was 36 and everything else is looking good.

    Help Needed sweet weakness

I found sugar free jelly helped a hell of a lot. If you really can't get on top of it, there are other medications to try - repaglinide, sulfonylureas, even insulin ultimately, and lots of others besides. At least that way your blood sugar will be more under control, even if the better solution...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Back up to 28 stone now (392 lbs/178kg) but my blood sugar is much better than it's been all year - primarily achieved through medication though. Perhaps next year I'll have another go at low carbing!

Is Repaglinide a 'switch' or a 'dial'?

Having been on this medication for a while now, I can tell you it's definitely a dial - more for a heavier carb meal, less for a lower carb meal.

    Hba1c down again :)

So despite failing utterly at low carbing, and actually regaining some weight I'd lost (about 35 lbs), my latest hba1c is down to 37 from 92 at diagnosis in February - even my cholesterol has improved. Lots of walking has helped, and I'll admit I'm on a small dose of pioglitazone and repaglinide...

    Xpert course

So I have reluctantly been attending the Xpert course prescribed by my GP and am amazed to find that they've changed their advice and are preaching low carb diet as a way to deal with type 2. Apparently the course materials have been completely rewritten with this in mind and although the...

    Vit D shortage

I'd read somewhere (not sure where!) that vitamin D deficiency is common in type 2s because, well, type 2s tend to be fat, and vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin and just gets absorbed into the excess body fat.

    mirtazapine...

I will say things improved after a couple of weeks, and my GP did say that side effect usually wears off. I've known of people who got to the point where they didn't experience the tiredness at all after a while but I was just one of those that wasn't so lucky!

    mirtazapine...

I took it for about 2 years. It helped me a lot but I did gain weight while on it - possibly water retention though as my face and hands became very puffy while I was on it and the puffiness went away as soon as I stopped taking it. Like I say, it did help a lot with the depression. The big...

Newly diagnosed at 30 - hello everyone!

Welcome, and sorry to hear about your diagnosis! Yes I got diagnosed this February at the age of 31 (32 now!). It's a drag, isn't it? Fortunately there's tons you can do to manage it, either diet changes, exercise or medication, or a combination of all 3. I managed to get my hba1c down from 92...

Repaglinide - more for bigger meal?

I've been taking repaglinide recently and it works wonders I have to admit. Should I always take the exact same dose every time or so I take more for a large/carb heavy meal and less for a low carb meal?

    Repaglinide *after* eating?

I just had quite a high carb meal and completely forgot to take my repaglinide before I ate. Is there any value in taking it just after I've eaten?

Is Repaglinide a 'switch' or a 'dial'?

I just started repaglinide and would be curious to know if you worked out the answer to your question!

    Short, big spikes

Here's a graph I created of the tests. It's not quite exactly every 15 mins but close enough to see a shape. It's 2 hours between the first sample point and the last.

Would have been a great idea!

    Short, big spikes

So I've been testing closely to see what my spikes look like - just before eating, and then every 15 minutes thereafter for 2 hours. I wanted to see what was going on because when I was first diagnosed in February this year I found if I ate any carbs at all my sugar would go high and stay there...

4.3 is that too low? Felt 'wobbly'

I've definitely been feeling slightly funny lately as my numbers have started getting down into the high 4s recently (having usually been in the teens a few months ago) - bit tired, headachy, unable to focus. Hopefully it won't last too long!

4 weeks in and melt down hit!!!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. My own experience so far (4 months on from diagnosis) is that I keep having these short little "episodes" of falling off, seeing what it's doing to my blood sugar and getting right back to the diet again. I did think I'd been messing it up by doing this but my...

    HbA1c Result - wow

    Oh that's amazing progress, congratulations!
