    That pesky cholesterol again!

If they are going to charge you £10, ask for a Subject Acess Request.. that’s everything in your medical file ( maybe some exclusions) . Which has to be provided by law. But as it can mean reams of work, they might give you the latest results free to avoid doing it. - Especially if you...

Any decent low carb breakfast cereals out there?

I eat Oatibix - but I wouldn't suggest anyone else does, The most important thing for me was testing two hours after meals, so I could see which foods had which effects on my blood glucose. Testing acts like weighing scales and where would dieters be without them? I was surprised that...

    Dietitians!! are they helpful

    1. Go once - see what the dietician is like. But don't feel bad if you don't go back. The advantage to this is that it looks like you are 'a trier' on your medical records and doctors tend to smile at you if you are. 2. Testing is the best way. Test after every meal for 2 months. This will...

Sugar free soft drinks / mixers with NO ASPARTAME!

I'd put in a word for low alcohol drinks ..you Coz. Usually get one in a pub and it doesn't make you feel so different, or too young. The ingredients are low in sugar, and I find them better than RedBull, Diet Coke and Supemarket fizzies. Favourite us Clausthaler, followed by Becks Blue...

Second visit to Nurse, thank goodness for this site!

They do tend to drag out any advice .. Here's my Top 5 Tips 1. As stated take the SR Metformin, if you get diarrhoea. 2. Look at the column on the back of packets, tubs and cans. ( not the front) Find carbohydrates .. Under that should be : Sugars...if that figure is over 10 - don't eat...

Called into the office for using my insulin in staffroom

I sympathise with you - but to fight this battle long- term will stress you out more than anyone else. Even if you win, it will leave you tired of the whole thing because of the processes that you will have to undergo to do it. It's easiest thing is to ask for a room/place where you can act...

Need help with breaking a food addiction!

It's not an addiction. We are genetically driven to seek food, warmth, sex etc... Some people gave stronger drives than others. It's not like alcohol, cigarettes or drugs, which are addictions. We don't need them to live and procreate and I would argue that they are easier to give up. So...

CRP test.. Does anyone know if diabetes affects results?

Thanks .. Thats helpful. I am hypothyroid.. 125mg a day, so I suppose that would account for at least part of the reading. The doctor didn't give that as a reason -even after three tests to see if the level was coming down( thats's what alarmed me). I had no idea if this level was something...

CRP test.. Does anyone know if diabetes affects results?

Thanks. Rest of tests results fine. Liver fine, good levels of LDL. Just the normal winter colds. I've looked up pancreatic problems but I don't seem to have any of the symptoms. But I will keep the symptoms in mind and take action if I get any.

CRP test.. Does anyone know if diabetes affects results?

I have a high reading on. CRP test..(21.....should be less than 5) Since the doctor doesn't seem to know, I wondered if anyone else has had this test and been told if type 2 diabetes (my hblc 5.3) affects the readings on it.

    Itchy Spots

I've only found two things which help with eczema/slight rashes. 1. Hydrocortisone .. Which doctors don't like prescribing because it makes the skin thinner. 2 Dab spots with surgical spirit, dry and then put on medicated talcum powder. This shouldn't work, as according to the docs, creams...

Ideal Menu For Type 2 for the day?

Sometimes you are in a rush and haven't planned a menu. Quick tip...if caught having to buy a snack.. Look at the back of the packet, sandwich wrapper etc. Go down the list to where it says; Carbohydrates. Under this it will say.. Of which are sugars.. If this is under 10.. You can eat it.

    REFUSED TEST MACHINE

It would be stupid for a doctor to say that a patient has to go on a diet. The patient will be reviewed in six months.. But in the meantime, the patient is not allowed to get on the scales to see how he/she is getting on. That is what doctors are doing to newly diagnosed patients. I learnt...

Had blood test - and row with doctor !

Change your doctor. If he/she hasn't bothered to grasp the basics on diabetes what are the chances that this person would be much good at anything but basic prescribing?

    Has anyone come off Metformin?

Yes..on it for two years. Started 500, went up to 750x2 but quickly changed to the slow release version as it didn't really suit me. (Stomach pains dizziness ect) This was better. My reading fell from 8.6 to 5.2 in the first six months... Due to diet and, I think, less stress. I asked if...
