    Hair loss - how much?

Since being diagnosed a couple months ago, I've noticed consistent hair loss - every time I run my hand lightly through my hair, a few full hairs stick to it (I'm male, my hair is about an inch long). The only exception is after shower, obviously all the loose hair has been washed out. I had...

    Long term effects of hypos?

So... A hypo starves your body and brain... It would make sense if there were long term effects. Nobody ever mentions it though in education... Sent from my HTC 2PST1 using Diabetes.co.uk Forum mobile app

Getting caught out with slow metabolism sometimes?

Went to bed at 10mmol/l, a few (3-4) hours after treating a hypo. (After a dinner fail that happened after taking my rapid) Woke up at "HI"... I thought I'd needed a lot to get me back up after dinner, but yeah... massive delay. Does this happen? Wasn't particularly high fat, similar to usual...

    What's your weird hypo symptom?

So, I don't know if anyone else gets this... When I reach a certain point, beyond just a bit jittery and sweaty, but before anything really bad... sort of high 2's/low 3's... I get this wonderful fresh light floaty feeling. I feel terrible about 15mins later, and am really too anxious/attentive...

Libre - how far out would you go before replacement?

So have been getting some dodgy readings with my new sensor (only my second).... Eg: sensor = 3.5, blood/strip = 5.5. This has been going for 72hrs. At what point would you call it defective? My first sensor was great, always within 0.5.

    Libre/CGM sensor - bumps, knocks & trauma

Anyone got experience with this? Just hooked my Libre sensor on a door frame quite hard. It seems to still be attached, I've no definitive reason to believe the needle has been dislodged.. it's pulled a fair bit of the glue up on one side, so it's possible it got pulled up a bit from the skin...

Type 1 More questions as a somewhat new diabetic...

Type 1, 6 weeks in. 1) do you have a "minimum correction"? I took 2 units to knock me back down a bit today, there should've been zero carbs active (4hrs after lunch, no snacks/drinks), and it did nothing for me whatsoever. 2) what is your usual range (eg ignoring events that happen only once...

    Forgetting you now have diabetes

Anyone else get this when they're new? I have done it a few times now. Once led to exercise-induced hypo, once after downing ice cream, popcorn, coke in a movie - and a couple times where I've forgotten to bring my kit with me (luckily remembered before going far). How do you remind yourself? I...

Do you have any other autoimmune conditions?

Just wondering. I have developed pernicious anemia due to anti-parietal cell antibodies (can't get b12 from food), which came on about the same time as my type1.

    Do you "count" protein?

Just wondering. Since anywhere up to 40% of protein can be converted to glucose, do you count it and use it at all for calculations? It would make things difficult, with its digestion/conversion taking longer than many bolus insulin last, especially if you're eating fat/protein combo... This...

Type 1 High BGL and getting it down

Saw the team yesterday. We all decided things seemed to have settled into a honeymoon phase as I've been taking 5-6 units bolus instead of 10-12 for a couple weeks. (Diagnosed a month ago). We set up a carb ratio based on the week's diary, a correction factor too. We considered dropping my...

    Dumb Libre question...

Got mine yesterday, put my first sensor on.. thought I'd stuffed up the application and it hadn't attached to me, but looked at my arm and there it was! Anyway, I didn't think of this until today... How do I remove the sensor? >_< PS - I'm in love already! Was only going to do it for a few...

Insulin / Carb / Blood glucose ratio

So, just working out ratios and had a question: If 1u handles 10g carb, and 1u corrects blood sugar by 2mmol/L - does this mean 10g carb should increase blood sugar by 2mmol/L? Or is the relationship not that straightforward?

Medication that effects liver glucose release?

So, alcohol causes BG to drop, as I understand, because it prevents the liver releasing glucose. Do other drugs that put particular strain on the liver also do this? In other words: Is it because the liver is "busy"/under strain, regardless of the cause? OR is it a specific chemical pathway...

More than usual escaping when the needle comes out?

So I just pulled out a pen needle, and quite a bit of insulin seemed to come back - it kind of squirted back rather than the usual tiny bead that I get. I'm not sure if it was actually more volume or just squirted at high pressure.. it certainly seemed like more! Does this happen? I have a lot...

    Variability in insulin production

So being newly type 1 I expected some variability, but this has caught me off guard. I went from taking approx 34u bolus (12/12/10) and more restricted carb intake, just trying to keep my bgl steady; to the next day taking 22u (8/8/6), eating more than I usually would, and still going low after...

    Basic BGL/Hypo/Hyper Questions

A few things nobody has ever mentioned to me, despite having seen endo, nurses, dietitians, educators and reading extensively since being diagnosed... (I'm asking from a type1 perspective but I guess they're not limited to just that.) Also preemptively, thanks to everyone who keeps answering my...

    Stomach problems & Digestion

Hi guys, I'm finding certain food types are giving me delayed BGL spikes (4hr instead of 2). Haven't figured out which yet, as I'm new, but I'm honing in on it I think. The only things I'm certain work in time with my bolus are the simple carbs/sugars - rice, white bread, lollies, soft drinks...

    LADA vs. Type 1?

Is there anything different about LADA other than the age of diagnosis? Forgive me for the basic question, I've heard/seen next to nothing about LADA since I was diagnosed as T1 and I've been doing pretty much nothing but read since finding out! I'm 30.. they say LADA is for over 30s, and they...

Do you drive? If so, how much?

Just wondering since I started driving again (just spent 6wks in hospital, the last few days being the newly acquired t1). Around here your bgl must be above 5 to be allowed to. Which sucks because 4 is supposedly normal. Anyway, had my first low reading when wanting to drive. I was out...
