Type 2 What makes a good substitute for crackers for cheese... I crave the crunch

Have you tried baking the cheese as crackers? There are all sorts of recipes to do this on line. It is really easy and works quite well. Whether it is sliced or shredded cheese, it works. Just an idea. Good luck.

    Type 1 Breakfast

I started pushing breakfast time back. I try to avoid eating until 2-4 hours after waking. (I have my 2 cups of coffee though). It's basically the hour of brunch and it's great because it covers both meals, breakfast and lunch. I try to stick to eggs, leftovers, salad, avocado/guacamole, the...

Wasn't hungry until afternoon. Had a hard boiled egg with a few spoons of salsa around 1400 hours. Supper was a salad of greens, olives, some rotisserie chicken and another egg with Greek-yogurt based dressing. Post supper a bit of egg nog with a small splash of brandy and 2 squares Lindt 90...

Am I the only one who got type 1 diabetic at the age of 19?

The only other (meaning other than me) person in my family with type 1 was my grandmother diagnosed 40-41 years of age. Back then it was 'insulin dependent' when she wound up in the hospital, probably in DKA, like many diagnosed type 1. But plenty of other ailments caused by autoimmune...

Am I the only one who got type 1 diabetic at the age of 19?

I was diagnosed at 45. Not LADA, either. Type 1. My grandmother early 40s in 1960. (Back then it was just "insulin dependent diabetes" not a type or even juvenile). I've met plenty of people who are diagnosed later in life. 40s. One lady in her 50s. It happens.

    Breakfast ?

Chia seeds, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, chopped tree nuts like almonds or your favorite, mixed with some cinnamon and a sprinkle of dried cranberries or other dried berries. Mix together. When you eat, add some hot water or hot unsweetened almond milk, if you like a squirt of liquid stevia...

Breakfast/lunch: 2 hard boil eggs and a few of the last of the garden tomatoes. Supper: A salad with mixed greens, more tomato, and rotisserie chicken. Water. For a treat I had a bakery ghost Halloween cookie and a cup of decaf after supper. Watching the #s and dosing accordingly. Happy...

    Cranberry sauce

Buy a bag of frozen or fresh whole cranberries. Cook them down in a heavy sauce pan with some water, about 1/8 to 1/4C of orange juice unsweetened, zest of 1 orange, 1 or 2 cinnamon sticks, and some ethyritrol or other favorite sugar substitute. The berries will pop. Keep stirring over low...

Today diabetes did not stop me

T1 didn't stop me from doing anything today. Overall, maybe I've given up eating a few things I ate before, but even then, not many and not often. So I can't even say T1 stopped me from eating something; probably not. Overall, day to day, T1 doesn't stop me from doing anything. If I stop...

What is the highest HbA1c ever recorded?

In the US the 'chart' or range for Hba1C goes to 14 or a three month average of 355. When I was diagnosed (T1) I was literally and figuratively 'off the chart.' I suspect this is not uncommon for T1 diagnosis as many are in critical, DKA stage, when diagnosed.

    99% lindt chocolate...

I eat Lindt 90 percent. I've had 99 percent too. One idea is to buy liquid stevia. Squirt a bit onto a plate. Swirl square of the 99 percent in the liquid stevia. No carbs added.

    Type 1 Medical alert necklace/bracelet

I will weigh in here with some words of advice. I work for a law enforcement agency. First responders (police, firefighters, ambulance service) as well as medical providers need to be able to easily, quickly and accurately identify your condition. Have medical jewelry or a tattoo that is...

    Be wary of Nut Flours

Mandelmel has a website that can be accessed to obtain information about how the almonds are defatted. The package indicates the almonds are 'cold pressed' to remove fat.

    Great chocolate -

For anyone interested, Lindt has a very nice 90 percent bar. At 90 percent you certainly can't eat the whole thing. I usually have 2 squares. That's enough. The price is reasonable in my local stores too. Take care everyone.
