    Memory loss after severe hypo

Yeah, that would be a huge amount of novorapid if you did somehow have it by mistake. I take quite a bit lower dose than you, but generally any hypo with long acting insulin comes on pretty gradually for me (like with an advanced warning of feeling weak and hungry). I hope that you start...

    Memory loss after severe hypo

I'm interested in the circumstances surrounding how you went into the hypo. How much fast acting insulin did you have after you got up and what did you eat?

    Eggs. Oh!

Here is a non "Daily Fail" link: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/11/201115101249.htm So clearly a correlation but not necessarily a causation. The most likely explanation is that an increasingly non traditional diet (with processed snacks) is correlated with increased rates of...

    Covid lockdowns/restrictions and diabetes.

Here in Australia, one of our states (South Australia) has just started a covid lockdown (albeit fairly brief for now) that bans *any* outdoor exercise! The frustrating thing is that at the same time they are explicitly allowing people to go out to buy alcohol (because that is apparently...

How many eggs do you eat per week?

I generally eat about 6 to 12 eggs per week. The biggest problem with a lot of the dietary recommendations that we've had in the past, like "don't eat eggs", is that they almost assume that if you remove something from your diet that you won't just replace it with something else. That is...

    Ice Cream/Popsicles

Yeah, I think I pay about $3.20 (AUD) for 500 mL of 36% cream here (Australia).

    Ice Cream/Popsicles

Hi tk123. Are you in USA or Canada? Anyway, it seems that the naming of different creams depends on your country. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cream#Canada Here in Australia standard cream is 36% and double cream is anywhere from 48% to 60%. In the UK standard in 36% and double is 48% + BTW...

    Running on fat!!

Hi LittleGreyCat. Before going LCHF and getting my blood sugar levels under control, I literally couldn't exercise so much without getting incredible fatigue (there and then). Now that I use LCHF I can exercise for a lot longer (I also cycle). Like yourself, I often do feel a fair bit of fatigue...

    Ice Cream/Popsicles

There are a couple of options. 1. An ice cream churn. Small electric ice cream churns are available quite cheaply these days. I bought mine from Aldi for about $20 (au). Note that commercially made ice cream has various vegetable gums and additives that stop it going rock hard. Home made ice...

    Running on fat!!

Hi jcbman. You do realize the the opening post here was about a 67 y.o. cycling 20 miles, right. To compare this with Olympic level sports is a complete straw man argument. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man Actually it's about as classic an example of a straw man argument as I've ever...

    Broth?

Generally just by boiling (and then simmering) meat bones with some low carb vegetables. Traditionally broths were a convenient way of extracting some nutrition from bones, where those nutrients are otherwise hard for us to access and would typically go to waste. The nutrients come from mostly...

    The Queen....almost low carb

I was just about to say something like: If it's good enough for 'ER then it's good enough for me. ;) But too bad that's it's not really all that low carb.

Has anyone tried this black bean chocolate cake recipe?

What effects are we talking about here. BGLs or bowel movements? As far as not spiking BGL goes, black beans are usually ok for me. Even more so when they are cooked and then cooled overnight like this, as it convert a lot of the available carbs into "resistant starch", which is very slow to be...

    New low carb bread https://lodough.co

If you are in NSW or ACT then try the Baker's Life 85% lower carb" bread from Aldi. I find it very good, and not outrageously priced. See this thread: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/bakers-life-85-lower-carb-bread-in-aldi-australia.127516/

Has anyone tried this black bean chocolate cake recipe?

I do a lot of low carb cooking in general (well obviously because that's what I eat), but up until now not much baking. I've seen recipes for things like this before, but never really bother to make them. Until yesterday that is. :) It sounds really weird in a cake, because I usually associate...

    How sugar works

Simple starches like those found in rice and bread are just polymers of glucose. Essentially that means they are chains of glucose molecules stacked one after another in a line. These are very readily broken down into glucose by digestive enzymes in our bodies, though the presence of fats and/or...

"Baker's Life 85% lower carb bread" in Aldi (Australia)

Interesting reading, thanks. :) Yes this bread seems the real deal as it doesn't spike my BGL. The one time I accidently bought the "25% lower carb"stuff by mistake I didn't even notice any difference at first. The taste and texture seemed very similar, but it raised my BGL at lot more...

"Baker's Life 85% lower carb bread" in Aldi (Australia)

Yeah but we've been jealous for ages of the Lidi low carb rolls that you guys can get Rob. :) This is the first genuine low carb bread I've found in any supermarket here, so I'm pretty excited. Just a heads up for anyone buying this, be careful because they have a really similar looking product...

"Baker's Life 85% lower carb bread" in Aldi (Australia)

Yep that's it Tipetoo. :) It's quite a dense seed type bread, and very filling, but it's still got that lovely real bread texture and taste. About 46g per slice, which comes to just under 2.5g of carbs/slice. :)

"Baker's Life 85% lower carb bread" in Aldi (Australia)

Has anyone else tried this bread? I'm not sure when they started stocking it, as I don't usually even look at the bread aisle, but I've been buying it for the past few weeks and it's been great. :) Only 5.4g carb per 100 grams, and quite high in protein and fibre. It totally has the texture of...
