ND research - the view from ‘the other side’ ( as some see them)

I was replying to the definition of remission that both yourself and ringi made. Both of you mentioned that it involved type 2's not taking medication. >last 2 months of that period medication free. AND >Therefore I think "remission" has been defined based on not needing any drugs diabetes...

@Boo1979 please explain why you thought it was okay to swear at me on this forum.

What I mean by that comment is that the research is aimed at lowering costs for the NHS which means lowering the costs of medication. Prof Taylor talks about the cost to the NHS from type 2. Which bit of that don't you understand?

Surely the reason that they won't compare low carb and ND is that once remission is achieved there is a 'return' to structured and supported 'normal healthy' eating i.e. eating carbs. It seems to me 'remission' is all about being able to eat carbs again without having type 2 levels of glucose.

ND research - the view from ‘the other side’ ( as some see them)

Maybe it's because traditionally pre-diabetics could stop becoming type 2 with lifestyle changes rather than being type 2 and being it for ever. Oops nope that doesn't really work does it given that I've been told that I am not considered diabetic by my surgery so what is the difference for me...

LOL Ringi that's what they tell you when you ARE diagnosed with Type 2. Well that's what they told me. My gp didn't tell me anything at all when they 'diagnosed' me with being pre-diabetic. It just wasn't that big a deal. Having read that it isn't a clinical term I now understand why it was...

ND research - the view from ‘the other side’ ( as some see them)

Aaahh now I understand they don't agree with the definition. >“Prediabetes isn’t actually a clinical term which is recognised by the World Health Organization. In fact, the American Diabetes Association has set the level for prediabetes at a blood glucose measurement of HbA1C 5.7% (39mmol/mol)...

ND research - the view from ‘the other side’ ( as some see them)

    >But what does remission actually mean? It’s when blood glucose (or blood sugar) levels are in a normal range again. >In this study, the team defined remission as having blood glucose levels (HbA1c) below 6.5% (48mmol/mol) after 12 months, with at least 2 months without any Type 2 diabetes...

More Support, less Advice for Newbies

I believe in giving advice because it worked for me. BUT the everyone is different and what works for one person might not work for another message is very, very important.

Type 2 Help please with readings, newly diagnosed

The hunger could be from eating carbs. That kind of eat something and then 2 hours later hungry again stuff. That can be carbs causing it. I eat a small piece of cheese or a few nuts like Macadamias or Pecans and the hunger goes. Also diet drinks give me cravings. But they are fine for...

Type 2 Help please with readings, newly diagnosed

Look at the back of packets and see how much carbohydrate is in a product. I go for under 5g per 100g being okay or up to 10g occasionally. I like tomato soup and it raises my glucose levels higher than a proper full meal does, so I do have it but not very often i.e. twice in 5 months. Carbs...

More Support, less Advice for Newbies

This is what I found. I could see for myself that the diet advice I got here worked. I could also see that the diet advice given to me from my DN lead to readings of 17.9

    Fruit

I had an ultra sound which is why I know I have a fatty liver. However after eating LCHF for 3 months my next test result showed normal liver function. I tried asking the DN about it i.e. did this mean that I still have a fatty liver and her reply was the liver can repair itself. ...

Have your bloods improved with LCHF?

To answer your question yes they have improved by a lot. I went from being into the diabetic range into well into the normal range in 3 months. So much so my doctors no longer consider me to be diabetic. When are you measuring? You say that your glucose levels are the same but when are you...

    Poor GP support?

Actually I did ask my gp questions and the answer was 'make an appointment to see the diabetic nurse and she will answer them'.

    Not too bad

Well done on those figures. It's just so worth the effort isn't it.

    Poor GP support?

I moan about the support that I got but it was much much better than your experience. The only thing that hasn't happened is my foot exam. Everything else would have happened within 3 months of diagnosis. I didn't bother with the education course. Also I was given a glucose testing kit AND I...
