For the first time being Diabetic is depressing me

I was diagnosed as T2D in 11/2011 with an HbA1c of 48. I went immediately low carb, and for the next four and a half years maintained HbA1cs between 42 and 48. Until 2016 when I registered one of 102 !! On my trusty diet ! Within 3 months I was reclassified as LADA and put on a regime of...

    What is 'Real LDL'?

    Beta blockers

Following aortic heart valve replacement in May, I've been on Bisoprolol 2.5 mg daily. Whilst it had other side effects, I never noticed higher BS. It appears it can mask the symptoms of a hypo, so monitoring BS levels more would be advisable.I still retain hypo awareness. Geoff

    What is 'Real LDL'?

We're both wrong. I'd searched a trigs converter, and failed to notice it was a cholesterol converter ! It's blood readings that convert at a ratio of 18. Since mg/dL is measuring something different in nature to mmol/L, US mg/dL measurements of cholesterol and trigs convert at different rates...

    What is 'Real LDL'?

"Statistical analysis showed that when triglyceride is <100 mg/dL, calculated low- density lipoprotein cholesterol is significantly overestimated" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18426324 100 mg/dL equates to 2.6 mmol/L **Correction** THIS IS WRONG. It equates to 1.13 mmol/L Geoff edited...

    What is 'Real LDL'?

There are two formulas for calculating LDL, Friedewald and Iranian : https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=opera&q=ldl+iranian+formula&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 The limitations of the Friedewald equation are explained here (overestimating LDL on a low carb diet) ...

Confusion over diagnosis - Type 1,1.5 or 2?

From the read of your post, the professionals may well be getting to the bottom of it - they've ordered tests that will help them. It doesn't help you that you're waiting to re-submit these, but patience seems to be the order of the day. If there's one thing diabetics tend to agree on, it is...

    Vitamin D supplements

Familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia ? "Familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia (FHH) is an inherited disorder that causes abnormally high levels of calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia) and low to moderate levels of calcium in urine (hypocalciuric)." Geoff

    Vitamin D supplements

Vit D can cause calcium levels to rise, but the solution is to take it with K2, which channels calcium into the bones, where it's meant to be, rather than into joints, arteries etc. Geoff

    Vitamin D supplements

One big reason for current low levels of vitamin D (not actually a vitamin but a hormone) is that sun exposure was demonised, and sun screen/block was recommended. People who cover up routinely, or apply liberally factor 30, are putting themselves at risk from D deficiency. It wouldn't surprise...

Can you help with a discrepancy

    Just for clarity, mmol/mol readings for HbA1cs are different to mmol/L readings for blood glucose. Compare mmol/mol HbA1c = % HbA1c = average blood glucose 31 = 5 = 5.4 42 = 6 =...

    From “first for women”

Cholesterol reduction is key to preventing Type 2 diabetes ? That's what is truly a 'first'. I've never heard that before. Sent me to an internet search where the two are linked or associated, but nothing on causation. It's like the analogy comparing cholesterol to fire engines, always finding...

Be kind to yourself, and if being overwhelmed means telling others that's how you're feeling, and asking for patience/help, so be it. Your anger is NOT unreasonable in the event of losing a family member. This may be bringing up reactions you'd never have imagined ! Christmas can be the best of...
