Type 1.5 Legs and hands cramps

I know a few years back I got a doze of cramps in both my hands and legs, but went to my GP. I think it turned out that I was dehydrated. So I was told to drink tonic water (it has something in it that stops cramps) however I also ran out of it, so just drank regular water and sure enough the...

Medical Team - Care (or lack thereof)

Thanks, thats what I actually have done already, provided them a list of what I call a food diary (foods I ate, blood sugar readings, Carb count and insulin dosage) but they couldn't be less interested. I'm not against carb counting, I also have carbs and cals and a scales so I can weight...

    Eye Tests

Thanks, their website actually indicates it should be "free" but when I mentioned this on the phone she tried to tell me I had read it wrong. Either way, it put me off them for sure.

    Nhs care shocking

Also DAFNE courses don't guarantee that you will get perfect levels at all. Only 17% of type 1 s hit the target HBA1c of 6.5% (this is a preview of the upcoming audit of diabetes treatment in the UK) who attend a course, so its somewhat flawed in its approach. On the course I undertook, there...

    DAFNE - For me - didn't work

So I see a lot of posts recommending DAFNE. I did it last year, and was told that it was revolutionary and would be life changing. Don't get me wrong, it was great to meet other diabetics and discuss some of our experiences and learn about the carb counting. But for me, it was a bit of a let...

Medical Team - Care (or lack thereof)

Sorry yes a Type 1 diabetic, on Toujeo and a fast acting insulin I can't recall. Been diabetic since 4 (so some 30 plus years now) and switched onto the fast/slow acting combo about 3 years ago and just has got so unbalanced. The DAFNE course was supposed to bring me back into balance, but it...

    Eye Tests

So I'm a type 1 diabetic, and getting confused. I was told that I could get a free eye test with being a Type 1, and so checked out Specsavers near me and they had a bit on their website about doing free eyetests. Yet when I phoned, they wanted to charge me for the test some 60 GBP. When I...

stress as a factor in diabetes complications

Stress is definitely something I am struggling with and I am finding that often, my medical care team are making me more stressed. I am often given conflicting information by the nurses and doctors, and am always amazed when they ask me why I am doing something - and when I tell them that the...

    Excessive sweating

Excessive sweating is quite common. Often when my sugars are high, my body does excessive sweating as a way of trying to burn it up or rid itself of sugar, but it also happens when I hypo too. So its a lot more common than you think. One of the important things is to remember to drink water...

    Diabetics and relationships

Like you, I struggle with telling others. I used to wear a bracelet, but found that often when people asked me about it - they withdrew from me as though I had the plague, so I stopped wearing it. I have told people I work with (luckily for me as I have had a few hypos and they have rescued...

Medical Team - Care (or lack thereof)

I'm going through a hard time at the moment with my diabetes care. My sugars are up and down all the time. I did a DAFNE course and it was good but my sugars didn't come into balance during the course and I was told repeatedly it would some time after. I used to cook a lot of my own meals so...

    Label magnifiers

ah apologies - I see it now!
  13. Fearless36

    Label magnifiers

I did buy some magnifying glasses on amazon but they aren’t that portable and so I heard a nurse on my DAFNE course mention that some were available on Diabetes UK but I couldn’t see them anywhere

    Label magnifiers

@DCUKMod linked to look way more practical! I had no clue something like that existed, very clever. (And now I want one, even though I can still read labels when the lighting is adequate :D) Do you have a link to these card magnifiers?

    Label magnifiers

So I’m struggling reading food labels and someone mentioned to me I could get hold of a label magnifier. I did a quick search and haven’t been able to find anything that does the job. A nurse told me that Diabetes UK sold them and I searched their website and gave them a call and they made me...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

So I attended a DAFNE and don't get me wrong, it was better than nothing but it left me somewhat troubled wiht my diabetes control and I felt worse after attending it. Not only that, but you do blood tests frequently through the course following the advice and for me the results were all over...

Anyone else feel their Doctor(s) let them down ?

I am feeling a bit let down by my care providers. I go to a hospital for diabetes care, and my GP is reasonably good (now). However I went on the DAFNE course last year (took time off to attend it) and the primary purpose was to reduce my HB1AC levels. Well its only doubled what it should be...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

So I did a DAFNE course last October (2018) and recently had a HB1AC test and my results have not reduced but doubled. Not happy or impressed and my Gp and hospital are absolutely useless in helping me to rectify this. I have a feeling I am going to have to do this alone without their help...

Hi all. Need a vent sorry.

Okay so this will involve jumping through hoops a bit, but its worth while doing. Firstly write to the Practice Manager. They have to respond in writing to your complaints, and if they do not then you can take things even further (and usually it works out costly for them not to do so). Most...

Poll: Which diabetes course(s) have you attended?

I fought to go on one, and it was definitely worthwhile and made the insulin adjustments a bit easier. It did feel somewhat rushed and to some degree, I think they need to refine it a bit more but I'm very glad I went and would recommend it. The one I went to was DAFNE.
