    Gymnema sylvestre

If you find a herbal remedy helps you, great, but if you are going to say that it has been tested and certainly has an effect beyond placebo, then there are some sources you need to be able to cite, to back that up. Otherwise, it's probably more accurate to say you have found that a herbal...

    Am I diabetic?

For a formal diagnosis you need laboratory blood tests as these are more reliable than home blood glucose meters. A fasting blood glucose of more than 7.0, plus another of the same or a different type of blood test is what usually confirms the diagnosis. Your fatigue and sweating could be...

What does your contract say about changes to working hours?

    Stupid Question time....

I can totally understand you not wanting to diabetes anymore, and it's ok to rant... rant as much as you need to, it can really help. In my 4 years with T2 I have ignored it for periods of time (obviously it's a completely different story with T2 because the effects are much slower). I think...

    Stupid Question time....

Just curious... what is the reason you're reluctant to use insulin again?

    Advice needed. So confused...

I agree with those suggestions. I was offered medication while prediabetic (in NZ). I've read about UK people on the forum who said they wanted to try medication but their doctor would not give it to them unless their HbA1c was over 48, which I think is a shame. Maybe it is something that...

    Pre diabetes & metformin

Yes, that's basically what happens when someone develops insulin resistance/glucose intolerance then prediabetes. However, you said you had normal blood glucose levels then that and your weight rapidly changed, which seemed a bit unusual. It may be perfectly normal for it to happen that way...

Has Anyone Had a Good Experience of Metformin?

If you would like to start a new thread we may be able to help you figure out what to do. A doctor should be doing further tests when someone's blood sugar is high for a long time.

Raising awareness of high blood pressure and diabetes

Similarly, some people with sleep apnoea find that BP meds don't work very well. Fortunately for me, the first BP med I tried did the trick, but if you find you need to take more than one BP med, then it's a good idea to ask for further tests, in case there is another condition affecting it...

Trying so willfully to come off T2DM

That's not strictly true because fat is also a source of energy.

Trying so willfully to come off T2DM

Protein can be converted into glucose in the body.

    Artificial sweeteners, for and against

If that's the person's reason for not using them then they're not likely to make claims about supposed dangers.

    Gymnema sylvestre

Sorry, but how would researchers know the effect was beyond placebo if the trial wasn't blinded? If people know the pill they are taking contains the substance being studied, then surely that can affect the result? That's why blinded trials are done, to control for the placebo effect.

    Feeling down

Low B12 levels will make you feel tired and down. I've had them before and the injections gave me a real boost. Normally we get enough B12 from our food, but there can be problems with absorbing it.

    Weight gain

It depends how much you eat, especially how much carbs. What type(s) of insulin are you using, is it with meals and do you adjust it according to the amounts of carbs or is it a set dose?

    Artificial sweeteners, for and against

If you read a few of the posts above, the discussion was about the knowledge used to back up decisions to use or not use products. When people use a product that hasn't been shown to work, but they believe it works, this is the placebo effect. When people avoid a product that hasn't been...

    Artificial sweeteners, for and against

If you read the OP, it was about asking for claims about artificial sweeteners to be backed up by something other than hearsay.

    First Aid

In the year or so before I was diagnosed with T2 and then before my BGs were under control, I used to heal slowly. Cuts and scrapes seem to heal in "normal" timeframes now, but I find that when I get a cold it is twice as bad and takes twice as long to go away as it did before diagnosis. Not...

    Pre diabetes & metformin

Hi and welcome. I'm sure with reducing carbs and portion sizes you will lose weight, unless there is a medical condition or medication affecting things. Do you know why you gained weight quickly? Sometimes there can be a medical reason, and if that's the case, it makes sense to tackle that in...
