    Steroid-Induced Diabetes

As an ICU nurse, part of our protocol, when a pt is placed on steroids, is to monitor their glucose and give insulin as if they were diabetic. Basically, what you experienced. Since we usually just give the steroids for a week or so, the glucose levels return to what ever that persons baseline...

Confused and in need of guidance

I believe the dry fasting is supposed to accelerate autophagy and/or possibly weight loss. Not necessarily part of diabetes management. I also think it is only done for short periods. I recall people talking about doing it for 12-18 hrs. Much like the religious fasting of Ramadan (? can’t...

Confused and in need of guidance

Sorry if you felt I was being pushy. The movie clip was just a quick way to get a synopsis of the research. Trying to make the data easier to access. Obviously, the approach you took worked for you. So glad you are doing well.

Confused and in need of guidance

QUOTE="Bluetit1802, post: 2035350, member: 94045"]How would that help with cancer? The body needs nourishment to help fight it, and very definitely to help with the effects of the treatment. Addendum: If you have Amazon Prime, look up the movie, “The Science of Fasting”. It’s free for Prime...

    Axonal Sensorimotor Polyneuropathy

https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/dme.13798 The above article shows an association, not causation, between painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy and lower Vit D levels. Although I don’t have the neuropathy, my grandmother had painful and my father had painless diabetic...

    Type 2 Low Carb Program

Yeah, the weight loss is a bit of a clue. I would definitely ask for more testing.

    Low Carb Recipes

Lately I have been using these diy Keto Bricks as my carry around snack. Or my, I’m feeling too lazy to make anything meal. Because they are cacao butter based, they don’t melt like coconut oil based snacks. I also add a bit of vanilla or chocolate extract or erythritol since I don’t have...

Confused and in need of guidance

Nutrients, especially glucose, feed the cancerous as well as the healthy cells. There is no discrimination as to which cells have access. Fasting is a way to limit which nutrients are available. - 1st, look up Valter Longo’s Fasting Mimicing Diet, a way to try for the physiological effects...

Intermittent 24 hour fasts. Started a few days ago.

I agree with BulkBiker because somewhere on Dr Fung’s site he mentioned that if your glucose goes up when fasting, it had to have come from somewhere. Your body had it stored away and is now releasing it. Basically, it is not a bad thing. I also had to laugh about eating cheese to decrease...

Confused and in need of guidance

Lately I’ve seen more and more people advocating dry fasting. While the supposed benefits seem more intense, at this point in my life I am not up to trying it. For me, fluids are necessary. Especially my morning coffee. However, if I was fasting because I had been diagnosed with cancer, I...

    Type 2 or LADA

I agree with further testing. I’m in the USA. I had some test results that seemed off to me. In order to get further tests done, which eventually led to an accurate diagnosis, I had to offer to pay for the testing myself. There are sites here that let you order your own labs independently...

    Increase Protein Intake

As above, the ideal is food, however you asked for gulp-and-go suggestions for when you feel you need protein but don’t feel like actually eating. - Great Lakes makes their college hydrolysate in individual packets. Not complete protein, but would help with joint/connective tissue repair post...

Taking things a step at a time

Hi and Welcome. Although not on insulin yet, I was diagnosed at 61. A bit of a shock. However, the good part is this site. You are not alone and there is a lot of support. Just jump in.

    Low fasting insulin/normal fasting glucose

With OGTT with Kraft assay glucose/insulin. The lab would only do 3 hrs and no 1/2 hrs. Had to fight for what I got. Fasting. 99(5.3)/3.6 1 hr. 217(11.7)//93 2 hr. 112(6)/16 3 hr. 38(2)/3 Glucose rose over 200 (10.8), indicating diabetes, dropped by >100 (5.4) in 1hr...

    Oral surgery

I don’t think anyone here can tell you. I know in the hospital, stitches are usually left on for about 10 days. My father , however, was a dentist and said something about oral injuries often healing faster than injuries to other parts of the body. It will all depend on what the person doing...

Diet, Health, and the Wisdom of Crowds

I thought this was quite funny while informative. It’s a lecture by the man who made the Fat Head movie, called Diet, Health, and the Wisdom of Crowds.

    Media alert yes/no

My thought is that if you have any condition that might guide or alter emergency care if you can’t speak, you need some sort of medic alert. Being on insulin definitely falls into that category. I have a cute bracelet and a dog tag which I alternate depending on mood.

Four stages of type 2 diabetes identified by US doctors

I was only diagnosed because I read Kraft’s book and insisted on the labs, paying for them out of pocket. Without those results, I probably would have been diagnosed as pre- diabetic in a few years. Years later, they would have diagnosed me as T2 requiring insulin. I might never have received...
