    T1 and breakfast

For years I didn't eat breakfast at all because I would just go high. Now that I have a libre and a pump I have worked really hard with a dietitian at my clinic and I can eat either porridge or weetabix for breakfast. I have to have a different basal setting for this though, as basically we...

    Dietitian

In my experience a dietician working in the diabetes team will not necessarily talk about food, they are trained in diabetes management (for T1 anyway). I see my dietician every 6 weeks or so, we don't really talk about diet at all (although she has told me to be careful, how many carbs I eat)...

NHS contract for an insulin pump

How do you judge 'benefits' though? It's not just about statistics, it's about say, having the freedom to eat breakfast without going high because you can adjust basal and bolus rates to compensate for e.g. porridge, it's about having the freedom to go on holiday without worrying about having...

    Alternative UK Insulin Suppliers

I think it is although I'm not sure which ones, also I don't think anyone is not going to sell us insulin, the problem will be how it gets into the country, from Europe if there are road issues or elsewhere if there are flight issues. To be honest I am already having enough issues, although I...

I get everything done at the hospital clinic, but they then send copies of any letters to the GP and they use the same system so can both see all history.

Are we going to die post-Brexit?

So if you knew the sheer amount of work that went into averting this, why would you imply it was something made up by the media. Um the civil service say they have not, cannot be making adequate preparations.

Are we going to die post-Brexit?

Actually, the reason it didn't happen was because me, and people like me spent well over a year preparing for it, rewriting code and making sure that it didn't happen. I don't see any preparations on that scale being made for Brexit.

Are we going to die post-Brexit?

Since it appears that the UK government don't know what they are doing, I think there could be inital inadvertent supply issues. I will be making sure that I have some insulin in my fridge and my cupboards have plenty of food in them. If there's no problem that's fine, I'll just use up what I...

Changing to FIASP, where to go?

I have been using fiasp for well over a year, had no problem getting it prescribed, my DSN just wrote to my GP. I do however, have an inordinate amount of trouble getting it from the pharmacy, it usually takes around three visits, I have to remind them that they have to make a special order and...

Using a pump AND a Libre Freestyle

I use a libre alongside a pump (medtronic 640g). I can take my BGL much more frequently with the libre and see what is happening with my blood sugar, I often use the temp basal on my pump to drop or increase the rate depending on what my BGL is doing. I also use to to do basal testing and for...

    pump settings for FIASP

I changed from humalog to fiasp and kept my settings the same, but quickly found I had to increase both basal and bolus a bit. For me I have the active insulin time set to 3 hours. Basal changes an hour or more. It took me wee while to get used to it, almost like starting on the pump again...

Just got my Type one diabetic tattoo

A few years ago - came across a guy collapsed in the street, so called an ambulance. I was very reassured to see that almost the first thing the paramedic did (after checking breathing etc) was to swab the guys finger and test his blood sugar.

    Dieting And Diabetes

You can eat proper food like eggs and bacon, and roast with green veg on slimming world as well. Although they tell you you *can* eat foods that are high in carbs, you don't have to eat this way. You can eat as much lean meat and veg as you like, just not the fat. I follow slimming world and...

    60kg Overweight

I guess we are all different, and one of my friends who has been v. successful on SW hardly ever eats carbs. I never feel hungry, so I think it's sustainable for me, also the flexibility means I can go out and enjoy a curry and a glass of wine when I want to. I do like to cook though, and I do...

    60kg Overweight

Slimming World does not have to be high carb, I eat about 80g carbs a day - I wouldn't say that is particularly high probably on the low side for most people.

    60kg Overweight

The OP is a T1 as am, I eat food that keeps my blood sugar in range along with the insulin I take, and whilst I would never eat grapes and would only eat an orange as part of a meal - many other fruits are absolutely fine apples, bananas, cherries, mangoes, pinepapple, raspberries are the main...
