Male thrush in type 2 diabetes

This is absolutely correct. It is simply a result of high levels of sugar in your urine. Bugs love warmth, moisture and sugar. Get the sugar levels down and hey presto, the thrush will disappear.

    lets talk about yogurt!

I've mentioned this before, Manor Farm Smooth and Creamy, nothing like it. But difficult to find much outsde the area in which it is made Thrussington Leicestershire. I buy half dozen at a time. I think that I've tried most and this really is the kiddie. If you get the opportunity do try it.

what cereals can i eat and can i have a cooked brekkie occassionaly

Easy. skip the cereals, they are often loaded with sugar. Fry ups are the way to go, ham/bacon, fried eggs, banger, tomato, mushrooms. One small fried spud maybe. Lasts me pretty well all day. If you fancy chocy, Aldi's 85% dark, half a square.

    Metformin and alcohol

Not strictly true as alcohol will reduce blood sugar. If you drink enough alcohol there is a danger of hypoglaecemia, even for a non-diabetic. That's why after a bender they become ravenous to restore b.g. levels.

    Metformin and alcohol

Absolutely spot on. A lot of doctors and diabetic nurses don't seem to realise that alcohol will not increase b.g. It lowers b.g because the alcohol mops up sugar. Metformin does the same sort of job. So metformin and alcohol both lower b.g levels. What do we mean by alcohol? Beer contains about...

    Lchf induced insulin resistance

Absolutely spot on. Agree 100%. The only slight difference is that I don't eat any carbs at all and I hit the fitness thing like hell. The diabetic symptoms have all but pretty well gone. I've now throttled back on the exercise but with the no carb diet, my weight is steady and I've put no...

    Yoghurt and berries

Ok, I'll do some digging and let you know if there are any outlets. They make the stuff reasonably close to where I live. Failing that I'll be in Southfields/Wandsworth area shortly and I'll bring you some. How's about that!

    Yoghurt and berries

Sorry to bang on about it, Manor Farm Smooth and Creamy is the finest yoghourt that I've ever tasted by some distance. There is no sharpness whatsoever, just a really creamy taste. I challenge non-yoghourt eaters to try it. It will change your perception of yoghourt. Another point, the full fat...

Blood Sugar in High 20's and GP not helping, please advise

You can tackle this diabetes thing in two ways. Give in, accept your fate, take tablets and carry on as you were with minor tweaks eg a few less chips etc. OR, you get angry and fight back. You dump the carbs completely, no drinks apart from coffee, tea and wine. Get some exercise if you can...

Blood Sugar in High 20's and GP not helping, please advise

Much the same as my diet. Breakfast 2 fried eggs, 3 or 4 rashers of bacon, one decent sausage, fried tomato and maybe a couple of fried slices of potato and some cafetiere coffee. That sets me up for the day. A lot of the time I don't bother with lunch, if I do, cheese , tuna and a bit of...

Blood Sugar in High 20's and GP not helping, please advise

I delayed responding to this post. I went and bought some Fage last night. It's ok but it's not a patch on Manor Farm Smooth and Creamy. Do please source this product and try it. It's made at Thrussington in Leicestershire. I believe Waitrose may be stocking it. If so, could be under their own...

    Sexual performance

A heck of a lot of these EDs are in the head (no pun intended). I do wonder if a new partner might just be the answer.

Blood Sugar in High 20's and GP not helping, please advise

Bluetit talks a lot of sense. On the yoghurt front, Manor Farm make a natural smooth and creamy yoghurt - best I've tasted by miles.

Blood Sugar in High 20's and GP not helping, please advise

Well, there's your problem Scottie. You need to cut out all the bread, potatoes and porridge. Eat chicken, fish, any meat, eggs, cheese, salads, find some veg that you can eat and some berries with cream. Chuck in red or dry white wine. It worked for me. If you do a bit exercise even better...

Hba1c down from 86(12.3) to 38(5.6) in 3 months diet and exercise only and the love of this forum

That's a tough question Bluetit. I think that if you have shed the weight and keep to the LCHF diet then blood glucose will stabilise. In my case, I have stopped testing, I think most people know the symptoms of when their blood glucose levels are too high. I seem to have stabilised in the low...

Hba1c down from 86(12.3) to 38(5.6) in 3 months diet and exercise only and the love of this forum

Shedding weight seems to be key to getting blood glucose levels down. To accelerate weight loss, exercise, gym, swimming etc. combined with the LCHF diet. Once the weight loss has been achieved, you can throttle back on the exercise as I suspect that if you keep to LCHF diet there will be no...

Big question - statins or not

Incidentally, my understanding is that GPs receive a bonus for getting patients on statins. From my reading, if you have had a stroke/heart attack they can be of benefit. But as a preventative measure, very questionable. The diabetic nurses have told me how foolish I was to reject them. After...

    newly diagnosed & confused

That's about it. No sugar, no carbohydrates, eat protein, dairy, berries, salads and plenty of exercise. What better than a full English breakfast, skip the toast though. If you are Type 2, try and get your blood sugar levels down without the sulfonylurea tablets (gliclazide etc.). The red and...

Living with a partner with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes

Maybe the aching joints are down to statins, if he takes these. Might be worth giving them a miss for a while to see if the aches go away or at vey least ask the GP to try an alternative. Certainly statins got me aching pretty well straight away.

Poll - side effects from statins?

If you have high sugar levels in bodily fluids you will be prone to thrush. Bacteria love raised sugar levels. If you can get your sugar levels down to a reasonable level, thrush will go away. This applies to males and females. On the topic of statins, GPs are given financial incentives for...
