    MODY DIABETES

As it is so overwhelmingly inherited, it coud stuff your offspring chances of ever getting insurance. Be careful. I am a MODY (unofficial). My daughter takes after me, so I need to get her into a way of living that will help prevent earlier hyperglycaemia.

Worried about Breakfast Post prandial (1 hr)

IMHO, Dennis' post is fine. I test regularily to see what my insulin dosing is like. I test a lot more as I have recently added exenatide into the mix. I have drastically reduced my short acting insulin by about 40%. As a type 2, it is a process of defining which foods cause big BS highs, in...

Worried about Breakfast Post prandial (1 hr)

I still would not call these morning post prandial spikes a problem. You have good morning control. Your A1c rise is related to another part of the day. Good luck.

Worried about Breakfast Post prandial (1 hr)

If your profile reflects your long term control, well , its very good. If yur A1C is high, it must be a problem with the rest of the day. If your largest meal is in the evening- concentrate your testing on that meal. I think your profile is execellent after breakfast. The rest if the forum...

    Another point of view

I spy on a diabeologisls' forum- they seem to treat at this age if they have hyperglycaemia symptoms eg lethargy, nocturia (peeing at night), thirst etc. Whatever works for her works obviuosly. On the aside, they also seem to believe that the improvements in outcomes and complications (eg...

    Levemir dosage ?

Keep increasing the dose gradually until your BG profile is acceptable. If you are type 2 then stay on metformin if you have no bad effects on your gut. I am on 100 units once a day of levemir and 40-80 units per day of novorapid. Its a lot. I am about to add in exenatide next week as well...

    injecting insulin in public

I hate injecting in toilets- so I inject at the table. It is very similar to breast feeding in public. It causes no harm to anybody but there are a small minority who find it offensice. Causing offense does not cause harm (see John S Mill). Personally, if someone finds it offensive then this...

High blood sugar following a cortisone injection

I did ask my rheumatology colleagues last year about this. They weren't sure or particilarily aware of BS rises after steroid injections- but there are reports that diabetics should expect an increase in blood sugar for at least a few days after a steroid injection. I give a lot of steroid...

    Skin Conditions

I might have it on my bad leg (above osteomyelitis and charcot foot). It might be a bit of psoriasis. Controlled well on epaderm ointment. Flares up if my foot swells or I forget to put epaderm on it. Its a strange skin problem.
