advice on ingredients please

im hypothyroid and taking the levothyroxine solution and its really syrupy and over sweet
ingredients as written on the box
each 5ml of oral sulution contains 100mcg levothyroxine, also contains glycerol, sodium, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (e219) (i take 6ml daily but will more than likely be increasing soon to 7ml)
is this ok with type 2?
dont want to keep taking if it will make me worse

I think regulating your thyroxine levels will make BG control in anyone easier and more predictable....

i think the effects of an unbalanced thyroid wouldn't be too pleasant would they not....

do you not fancy the pills.....they are tiny wee things...

i dont seem to do well on medication for long periods, i started on the tablets and was unwell, switched to NDT did great for 8 months then cortisol got high and i had to stop taking them, went on T3 did well for months and then couldnt take them, cortisol got high again so went on NDT and T3 and then they stopped prescribing T3 due to costs so i asked for tthe levothyroxine liquid to try
My TSH is 22 so feel awful, not sure if its cortisol, diabetes or thyroid
im just concerned with the liquid being so sweet because if its bad for me i will have to try back on the thyroxine pills again and hope i do ok

Glycerol is sweet tasting. It is technically a carbohydrate but there seems to be a difference of opinion as to whether it affects BG. In the worst case even if it has the same effect as pure sugar you are only consuming about 5 grams, so probably worth it if it helps with your thyroid problem.

i guess i just over worry about things, ill stay on it and see how my levels go once i get a monitor

I don't think you need to worry about the sweet taste.

Have you tried a combination of thyroid medication? I know some who don't do well on NDT or Levothyroxine, but it works fine to combine them. Or to take both Levothyroxine and T3.

ive tried all the thyroid meds, levothyroxine tablets, tiromel (turkish T3) nature throid, thiroid s, thiroyd, liothyronine, tried both the thyroid s and thiroyd with T3 and now the liquid, i do have some T3 here so might add a small dose and see how things go from there....if it works it means ill have to buy my own T3 as they have stopped giving it in the NHS now
ive been to the drs many times with a racing heart and shortness of breath and was once accused of making things up to get mediction (diazepan) and another dr told me i was a hypochoncriac but its a struggle with high cortisol too so im trying to lower that while working on thyroid and now diabetes...its all fun

Hi, I know this is an old post, but I cannot convert the synthetic T4 into T3 so have been prescribed liothyronine for 11 years now on the NHS. The only other alternative is the natural Armour Thyroid which is produced in America as the lio would cost you £225 for 28 tablets it may be a cheaper alternative. However I believe you're entitled to insist on T3 replacement, see your endocrinologist and definitely change your GP surgery. I learnt recently that liothyronine increases the likelihood of developing diabetes and I have noticed the lower my TSH the higher the Hb1ac level so you need to consult a specialist.

im now on eltroxin (levo under another name) because endocrinologist didnt like me being on the liquid despite me telling him how unwell i was throxine
i have my on T3 here so taking 100 eltroxine (should be 150 but i cant handle that much) and 12.5 T3, still feeling lousy TSH 4.53 (0.38-5.33) although it claims im in range, i need to increase the T3 a little again
i cant take NDT as have adrenal problems (high cortisol, i have a saliva test here waiting to be done so i cant start treatment) but saying that i did fab on nature throid for 8 months, i had energy and a life but then cortisol went high and so did my heart rate 150+ in A/E
How are you still managing to get T3 on the NHS? i thought everyone had been stopped due to cost

glycerol is sweet indeed, but it is a polyol and is not a sugar so should not affect bgl. It is a natural substance that the body uses to make lipids in the bloodstream and becomes triglycerides. It is not going to cause too much problem in the amounts present in the medication.

there are 2 brands of NDT that you can buy at a reasonable price
