Good morning all. After 12 hours fasting I have just taken my bg and it's 6.1. I'm afraid I'm still new to all this so it's means nothing to me just yet. Is this level ok? I will check again after eating breakfast. Thank you

Yes, no problem. You may find your fasting levels jump around slightly due to a possible liver dump that happens when you have not eaten anything.

Yes, that reading is OK. If your fasting BG goes up, or is higher than other pre-meal readings, please don't worry. Our fasting levels are unpredictable and depend on many other factors than food, most of which we have no control over. Concentrate on your before and after meal levels and get those in range before worrying about your fasting levels. Do keep a written record of all your readings, with your food and any other notes.
