where do i get help for this?
i dont have a dr and the NP
i have makes her RN's and PN's
do all the work i hardly get to see her
in the appts
the rns and pns run back and forth and tell her
things and then they come back to tell me
ive told my NP that i have an eating disorder
but i guess because i stopped purging
now it isnt serious
i cant keep food in my house so no
carbs to treat a hypo which
luckily i hardly get but
recently due to an illness i did get hypos
from not being able to eat enough
but only had sugar packets around
for that but it was hard to get rid of the hypo
with no real carbs to have after that
im beginning to think maybe hypos arent
as dangerous as they tell us
otherwise my NP would do something
to help me with my binge eating
and a second opinion isnt an option here
im lucky to have an NP and dont have to keep
using a walkin
do i just continue in my private hell?

When LEFT with jerks, sometimes you have to do a RIGHT turn. Can you get another doctor? You should not have to be communicating by proxy, but directly with your caregiver.

Binge eating can effectively cause serious gastrointestinal damage, so maybe enlist the help of a gastroenterologist?

thanks so much for answering

i may be able to get a new dr but it may take awiile
it took 5 years to get the NP
i wouldnt be able to get a gastroenterologist
until i got a dr as they have to refer people
to specialist drs

why is she ignoring that i need help?
to stop binging or at least less times
im so close to another binge
and the not keeping food around
makes diabetes that much more difficult

Hi @cdpm - Your situation really sounds far from ideal. Whilst there are many members who will have views on what you should do, your profile suggests you are in Canada? On that basis, your care pathways may differ a bit from the UK (although I understand the health care systems are similar).

You talk about having hypos recently due to being unable to eat. Were those hypos really low, or more really low for you? I'm sort of wondering if your care team aren't appreciating the impacts on you.

In UK, we have walk-in centres -usually in bigger towns) where there are GPs based, and who will see patients on a sit-and-wait basis. The wait can be hours! However they do fill a bit of a gap.

Perhaps it might help to do a bit of preparation prior to your next approach for support. You may have done this before, but perhaps writing down what you eat and drink, including quantities, when you purge and the impacts of both the binging on your blood sugars and mood.

Sometimes it's tricky to get across what you mean when describing something by it's title. One man's binge is another man's "treat night". Without the detail the person listening to the descriptive title "I have an eating disorder" doesn't really have much detail on which to make an assessment.

Apologies if you have done all of this already.

my next appt is tomorrow
so i will try to take in a better description
written down to tell them

the few hypos were from not eating
and resolved themselves on their own
i adjusted my insulin when i got them
and when i could eat better the numbers
climbed so i added back all the same insulin again
so thats all good now

i would really like to be able to bring food in the house
and not throw it away when i feel a binge coming
or eat it and feel horrible and out of control

a question regarding the better choice
between 2 "bad" choices

bring food in that i know i binge on (which is anything but vegetables)
or
just go out every day and buy a burger and 1
or 2 other pieces of take out foods for meals that day?

If you cancelled your appointment for tomorrow, have you made another one?

Well, I'm not a fan of takeaway food, so my choices would rarely to go down that option. Do you have a freezer? Could you have stuff in there that could help you resist the urge to overeat, bearing in mind you'd need to wait for something to defrost before eating it?

unfortunately no freezer
and have not remade the appt
because i find it hard to be blamed for the
illness caused hypo
in my understanding nearly everyone gets one
and its not always their fault
but i know will need to remake it in the near future

Could you try shopping for the day but only buying fresh food for the day rather than take out? So enough veg for two meals, whatever protein. Maybe use a small shop rather than supermarket if possible to avoid seeing trigger foods?
