Hi mate,

15.3 - 17.5 are very high readings and dangerous!

Don't eat wholemeal toast anymore. That will spike your BG to dangerous levels.

Just have eggs and bacon, with mushrooms or tomato. Watch out your portions. Eat in small amounts spread throughout the day.

yeah they are high but no ketone readings I'm in the hands of nurse I'm afraid that's why I asked and wanted feedback. been told not to worry about the high readings in the short term and to have approx 30g carbs with each meal which I know is not the advice from the majority! I've already put on this thread a lot of people who have commented on my thread will be very surprised with the dietary advise I know for a fact I will get again tomorrow ! I'll post after my appointment . thanks for the reply because I'm of the opinion voids have been far too high since I came out of hospital but I'm still being told not to worry!

I've learnt so much from the 'low-carb programme' by this website. It will teach you about portion sizes, which foods to eat and avoid and how often so that you won't feel hungry and won't spike your BG levels.

Good luck tomorrow.

thankyou. I'm so annoyed though after having great control and results for about 1 year and basically eating anything I want and hba1c dropping below 50 then just a couple of life setbacks and 3 weeks of not looking after myself and drinking because of depression has screwed my body up again! just hope I can get it back! lesson learnt the hard way never to take this thing for granted because it will bite you on the ****! thanks again for the advise and the links.

I can understand your frustration mate.

This is a lifestyle change - for life and we've go to stick with it.

Be creative with your food intake, cooking, meal preparations. Go for Low-glycemic vegetables. Avoid starchy foods including bread.

If you love bread so much, make your own Ketogenic Bread and it's very low carb.

Loads of links on YouTube about low-carb bead and cakes.

Dip it in butter to give you energy.

I'm sure this will be interesting. just had my review and separate doctors appointment. hba1c 68 which isn't as high as I anticipated after the last 6 weeks! showed her the last 3 weeks results between 10 and 20 but mainly mid teens and above. been put on sitagliptin which I will start tomorrow.
to summarise I said I was worried about long term effects with bloods running to high for too long and was told not to worry and to wait about 8 weeks and monitor bloods and ring in if they go any higher. I told her the advice I had been receiving on here and she basically said it was an over reaction and some people that's normal? ( doctor said the same because I asked them both the same questions and they sang from the same hymn sheet) . I also showed that I had been limiting to 30g approx carbs per meal and was told not to worry about carb counting at this stage and just eat balanced meals and wait for it 2 slices bread with morning bacon and scrambled eggs is fine and sensible! (doctor same comments) she also said mine was a strange case that they have come across on a few occasions where everything seems to be fine even getting down to pre diabetic levels then everything spiking out of the blue . (was on insulin in 2015 for 5 weeks then back to normal on just metformin until this happened but this was because I stopped taking meds so my own fault) . she also mentioned the possibility I could be type 1 1/2 or type 3? is this just another way of them saying they haven't got a clue what's happening? lol. she said I was definitely different anyway! anyway I'm now in limbo start the new meds tomorrow and keep eating balanced meals and hopefully see a difference and also referred for the next Desmond course. I'm going to follow advice but any rise and I'm going to be ringing up and asking to be referred to diabetic centre for second opinion .

Hi Toonarmy1000. Follow your doctors guidelines for now and just watch your carb intake. Try cutting out your bread and see if after a few days your readings might improve ? Wholemeal especially causes spikes for some.
Best luck Dude..

I think we're sometimes a bit quick to slate the nurse's / doctors. I can completely see why they would want you to stick to your normal diet and monitor your BG levels right now. If they stay up despite the meds then something needs to change, but if you go very low carb then it'll be hard to track.

Just my view.....

i dont think anybody is criticising the doctors particularly me seeing as they have just saved my life but the NHS guidelines seem to vastly different to the majority of the advice on this forum particularly dietary advice where carbs are concerned. it's all about opinions and they are all really useful thankyou
