Does coconut oil actually work?

Hello everyone,

Whilst looking for a hair treatment I came across coconut oil. I did some reading up on it and found people saying it helps with blood sugar control. I am very sceptical, has anyone tried it? and does it actually work?

I don't know about BG, but its a good fat that's in my diet, it's refined and with lchf, used as a treatment for epilepsy, mct it's a medium chain fatty acid

I use it as part of my low-carb diet, so in that respect it's a better source of energy than carbs as far as BGs are concerned.

Non-insulin injectable medication (incretin mimetics)
You can add it to your coffee, fry with it, coat your hair with it and even rub it on your body. So in all respects its a very good all rounder.

It's delicious in coffee with an ounce of butter too - frothed up with a blender... infact I am just making one as we type :hungry:

So teaspoon of coffee, ounce of butter and (how much coconut oil?) and whiz through in a blender is that right? Doesn't it curdle n go frothy? Do you have to melt the coconut oil first or does it melt in the hot water?

Never knew it was going to be so many questions for a cup of coffee-lol!

I use espresso coffee (Illy) in a mug with 25g butter and a couple teaspoons of coconut oil - the coffee melts the butter and oil. Then use a hand blender to blitz it into a froth. It doesn't curdle.

Here's the one I just made:

just make sure you get pure coconut oil, some of the ones labelled coconut oil aimed at hair or skin care contain other additives too.

Tesco do a large jar - on offer at moment.

It does make a good skin and hair moisturiser :)

Blimey, Asian shop here I come....

I see there a difference between coconut oils though... Refined, unrefined etc.. KTC coconut oil had a few question marks about it for a fair while...
