If you are trying to lose liver fat, the Newcastle diet is specially designed to do just this. It was originally done with shakes but Prof Taylor who designed it says it is even better if you can do it with real food. (800 cal per day for 8 weeks)

That's really interesting, where did Prof Taylor say it is even better if you can do it with real food? I would like to see that.

He is quoted as saying that in Michael Moseley's book "the 8 week blood sugar diet" Apparently the two of them are mates.

Three years ago my GGT was 143, I think due to meds. It has been a long struggle but last week on recent bloods my GGT was well within UK limits at 52 for the first time since it went over the top. It was steady at 35 for years, I reckon I shall make it eventually.

@lindisfel Well Done Derek on your GGT Result. :)

I received appointment at the weekend to see Liver Specialist on 13th October. And I was reminded to have the Blood Tests done within the next week for Iron Binding and Iron Coagulation.
William :).

Crikey!! If I followed that diet my BG would be sky high!
That's what I told diabesity specialist. He recons that I'll need to half my insulin. I said no. I'll have to take more!!!

I watched him in a documentary saying that too.

Hi all. I'm back - not to normal (can't remember what that is) but just before my husband died, I had received an appointment to have surgery on my parathyroid/thyroid problems. I decided just to go for it and not get put back to the end of the queue. So it's done - calcium levels have dropped nicely and I already feel better (might just be my body feeling relieved at no more punishment). However, the food was appalling and understanding of BS issues and medication, sadly, lacking. High carbs were all that were available (other than mounds of undressed iceberg lettuce). I had just 3 small bowls of soup a day (quite high in carbs as well) and drank only water (even that was pretty awful after the fine tap water we have here in the Western Isles) and the relationship between insulin/metformin and food was lost completely. But I'm home now with a huge scar across my throat - looking like a "Ripper" victim - and am about to try to get back on the straight and narrow.

Wish me luck!

Ann

Yesterday had another Fibroscan and result is 10.2. :(
20 months ago the first scan was done and I got a score of 10.5. I cannot believe how little it has reduced in this period of time.

Sorry to hear that William, is there a chance of a second opinion on what the cause is and what action may help? Best wishes. Derek

Yesterday (31st Oct) was at the Hospital to see the Liver Specialist. He is pleased with my Blood Tests = Iron Binding and Iron Coagulation are within normal range, my Haemoglobin is 143 and Ferritin levels is 21.
But, he is most pleased with the ALT of 59 and Gamma GT of 39.
(a year ago in Oct 2016 these were: ALT 107 and Gamma GT 100)
Could it be due to taking Milk Thistle every day since last October 2016 = hmm???

So no reduced carbohydrates @Liam1955 ?
If no dietary changes then milk thistle has indeed made a great difference. Well done. :) :) :)

Hi. @ickihun
I have been following a Low Fat "Diet" which was suggested months ago by the Liver Specialist and to eat loads of Vegetables and Fruit. (which I do eat a lot of Veggies)
But, I do have a treat on Saturday = a Strawberry Tart and on Sunday = a bag of Cadbury's Chocolate Buttons. If I didn't have a treat then I would not stick to the diet plan. And the Diabetologist "suggested" keep weekends for treats and only one each day, but be strict and stick with my diet Monday to Friday.

However, I have not lost any weight and just remain the same week in - week out!

It's great to see a success story not low carb related.
I think many are reluctant to post successes not low carb related lately.
I think insulin takers like us should keep your success in mind when thinking about changing to dramatic diets for liver health. Im delighted with your success! Bravo.
Great to see milk thistle's assistance is helping too. I will copy if I cannot keep my levels down in none xmas periods. Too many Halloween jellies may interfer with my next test too. Oops!
Just need to maintain my weight loss over the winter, then try again in 2018. I'm all knackered out with dieting again.
Maintance is the best I can hope for.

I am type 2 and not on meds. Do I have to low carb? it sounds like you dont have to low carb because of the insulin you take. Is that right?

I low carb but still need insulin when im in pain, ill or thyroid plays up. Oh and when I get loose tummy from metformin or side affects from heart meds. Insulin resistance problems since I was 5yr old but just gone on insulin after 40yrs of uncontrolled sugar and obesity problems. Ive fought but some wars arent always won. Luckily I can live another day to fight again.
