just trying to sort out if I want the op or not as I have other concidtions that would be helped

Hi there Karl, The answer to your question is maybe. If you were to have a gastric bypass (Roux en Y) then for some reason the removal of part of the bowel seems to "cure" diabetes in approximately 80% of cases. This happens overnight with many patients leaving hospital not taking medication. However a Bypass is a huge step not to be taken lightly. There is no harm in getting your GP to refer you to a bariatric clinic, and they can assess you and let you know all the ups and downs of the procedure. You don't have to go through with it if you feel it is too risky. Hope this helps.
