If you are really taking 28 units of insulin (I assume bolus type) in the morning and only consume 1 cup of tea and your blood sugar is consistently running 20-26 as you state initially and you have not been able to see a diabetes specialist in 10 years IMO no one on a forum like this is going to be able to help you to any great extent. That plus you claim you A1C's always come back "brilliant". In addition you failed to mention what type of insulin you use. I'm not thinking the problem is with your injection sites.
To be honest I have never spoken of my diabetes before, i've never had reason. I just brushed it under the carpet and because my bloods always come back okay I just thought everyone must go through the same thing so I'll just suck it up and get on with it. It's only recently that things have got to the point that my energy levels and mental health have suffered significantly. I am fairly uneducated on diabetes, it's only now that I feel that I need to pay more attention to it in an attempt to get back to my old self. Previously I had just put all the symptoms down to getting old and it was just the way it is. Whenever I asked to see the specialist the doctor mentioned that all my bloods have come back okay and there was no need to see him. It's only with my other health problems that they have gone more in depth as to what is going on. Fingers crossed the specialist will come up trumps and get me on the road to a bit of a better regime.

The doctor you mention above is your GP?

Your General Practitioner denied you access to a chronic condition specialist even though you had asked and were obviously having issues?! I'd politely* ask him to read the NICE guidelines for T1Ds - the preferred method is to refer them to a diabetes specialist unit. It's now taken 'other problems' for him to refer you..............:sour:

*how politely you point out his inadequacies are entirely up to you!

I hope the Diabetes clinic can help make things a lot better for you come December.

haha I've got my local MP involved and lo and behold I get appointments through within a week. I was never aware that I had any problems until the other health issues appeared as my bloods always came back good. To be honest he has been a good doctor with the other issues I have had (mental health etc) I should have signed up to this site years ago, at least then I would have got sound advice. At the end of the day we all live with diabetes and know in ourselves when things aren't right. I had put it down to other health problems and getting older but it looks like it may be the Diabetes after all.
Everyone has offered great advice and help, thank you to all who have replied to my post
